The quill is so bright and fancy due to its lore. It is actually taken from the Changer of Ways, so a power of Tzeench is kinda making it immune to rot, while nurgle is using it in such a mocking manner. Petty and small, but fun detail...

I was looking at the forge world great unclean one the other day and it made me think, when did Nurgle become the tentacle god? That’s mostly what the plague marines are. Tentacles. Sure he gives mutations but so does every other chaos god. Tone down the tentacles, horns and teeth in the armor and dial up the torn flesh and guts.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. Nurgle used to be flesh rotting off the bones and now its fuzzy and tentacled. So strange GW went with a different (more Tzeench related) look for Nurgle.

Nergle represents growth and decay, the natural cycle. Tentacles are another form that growth can take, so it still fits. I don't mind the tentacles from that perspective. While tentacles in most people's minds are closer to Cthulu, and hence Tzeench, note that Tzeench is change of current existence, not growth or decay of the being itself. TLDR: Tzeench changes forms, Nurgle adds to them via uncontrolled growth and decay.

Daemons In AOS are just much cooler. They have actual lore not from the perspective from a Space marine. They don’t go away and dissipate either.

The big frog mouth slug trunk thing makes me think of the "hyper realistic" creepypasta cliché. Its level of detail is just so beyond anything else on the model.

I agree with the color complaints on the plague drones. I painted mine with dark grey fleshy bits, a metallic green carapace, and the wings with iridescent color shift paint from turbodork. They look great, like enormous, plaguey house flies.

Nurglings can be easy to paint. Trick is to let shade washes do most of the work.

There is a gem in the Sigmar range that can be used for 40k pretty easy. I put a knight battle cannon on the end of the Glotkins stumpy arm - instant Soul Grinder/Plauge Hulk of Nurgle.

Nurgley stuff triggers my disgust reflex too much to ever want to collect, paint and play them for myself. I painted the Plague Marines & Poxwalkers from the 'Know No Fear' starter set as a favour - cue toddler twins running around going "Oh no, oh no, no, no, no" after poking their heads over the edge of my painting table and finding themselves at eye-level with Poxwalkers!

Why do I like Epidemius the most? He looks so grim dark and menacing I love it, eventhough his age is undeniable. I just don´t like the silliness of the other nurgle demon stuff. The nurgling bases are horrible, I have to agree, I own them and have no interest in painting them.

This is my favourite daemon range, but I have two issues with it. Nowadays nurgle is thought of as a “happy god” whether that by because they are in a trance or not. Looking at the old plaguebearers they have horrible expressions, and look quite horrifying. This is what makes me not a fan of the two nurgle characters ( not even going to say their names it’ll take too long) The other thing (more subjective) is that I wish the plaugubears had the rusted knives availability on the forgeworld road riders.
