Testy for sure. Still defending Brian. If he would have just made Brian O line coach, where he belongs, he would still be on the staff. I don't feel sorry for Brian and I don''t EXCUSE Kirk for all this NEPOTISM. Kirk is using this "Complimentary Football" BS to explain away his poor decisions.

Chryst would be ok, much better than BF, but I lean toward Pilbon. He has NFL experience and was a Hawkeye coach of the OL. Very successful at it too. We need a good OL coach for recruiting and development.

I'm not sure why throwing the ball automatically equates to worse defense in his mind. Is he worried about TO's? Time of possession? 3 and outs? They were not good in any of these stats this year, the defense was great! I don't understand that correlation.
@aaronfleming9426

There is an argument that Kirk and Phil put the best athletes on defense instead of offense. Case in point would be Cooper Dejean. He could have played well at any skill position on offense, but they put him on defense. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but that mindset would explain why he thinks it's not possible to have both a strong defense and a strong offense.

Disagree 1st and largest measure of any of a coach of any sport/activity is 1st participant development personally and on and off the field of competition. 2nd - wins and losses. 3rd - stats of any kind Cory, I agree KF has a blindsport on BF. He should that is his child. Hiring his child was the mistake. I think you have a blindsport as well in regards to BF.

Sure, that's a good criteria for the head coach of a program. But the idea that Kelton Copeland should be evaluated based upon wins/losses is ludicrous.

Iowa is much smaller school with much smaller recruiting base than the teams they lost to. You can't expect Iowa to beat them every year that's like expecting the A's to be exactly as successful as the Yankees and Red Sox. Kirk does a great job developing talent and his philosophy is built to take advantage of the skills his in state pipeline receives. If the state of Iowa had way more 4 and 5 star receivers in it Iowa would run a different system. You can not build a competitive organization, business, or team without knowing how to use your most plentiful resources well.

@coenolson2078
@coenolson2078 9 ай бұрын
@drewspinoso4849 they go based on the opportunities available. An education at Ohio state or Michigan is simply more prestigious than Iowa so there's that to begin with but also don't be naive. Look at the teams that recruit the best in the country. They are mostly teams in larger states but also with more money. Iowa makes less revenue in the current B1G than OSU, PSU, Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin and more money than everyone else. See how with the exception of Nebraska that those are the teams they traditionally struggle with?

BF pass scheme is mostly leftover from Davis. Need new pass offense that includes DJK/McNutt patterns. Currently too much "low risk" short & behind the los stuff or long, not much in between. Make opponents defend the entire field.

The thing is with a new OC coming to Iowa, the man has the right to expect certain things. If for example, the OC wants to have some freedom to coach his guys the way he wants and Kirk shouldnt micro manage too much. Yes Kirk should have input but not over ride everything the OC wants to do. A coach has to find what his players are capable of and adjust the scheme to his players. You can always throw some exotics on there because everyone should be able to do something like that. Its football not rocket science. The main thing is as always at Iowa, learn the techniques and fundamentals. Thats how you keep a high level year after year. The last big thing is red zone production.

The Hawkeyes set the bar soooo low. Kirk (and the fans) pride themselves on beating lousy teams, but the only thing that matters was looking like a high school team in the bowl game against Tennessee. And yes, that means I think my Badgers were a lousy team last year.

Iowa has not played complimentary football in years...Kirks defense would be playing better if the offense was giving them some breaks every once in a while. EVERY Iowa fans wants us in that top 12. They are not a relevant team in any playoff scenario if the nOffense continues like this.

Complimentary football is such a jedi mind trick. I'd much rather have a top 50 offense that moves the chains, gets first downs, and scores, than keeping the D on the field all game. How about a top 50 offense that scores and allows a top 10 D rest and dominate even more!

You think iowa has a good program they win there share and you have tranfer portals you think the 1 that from other schools that are great players and there riding the bench y not go to iowa dB wr qb defence and offense lines here iowa could have a hell of a team but I see some transfer portal and they still ride the bench if I knew I could and I was a 4 star even 5 stars are riding the bench iowa gets alot of TV time I'd be getting my ass to iowa to play if your that good and riding the bench I'd go to iowa .iowa needs to strategically revamp there program kirk is a good coach but they need to put in some trick plays they straighten out all the coaching staff they will be in the top ten even could play for a national championship even when kirk retires he been great coach he is in rebuilding this program .and 1 thing I got Bama kicking hairball ass in the playoffs they showed the cheeting they should have forfeit them games and he's or there saying he going back to the NFL he will never be like his brother you know y cause John has a brain his brother hairball doesn't have 1

get 11 wins that doesn't mean crap because of how you won and how you lost when you did. Its like we play knowing you have a finite amount of points your loud. So we play the game i can beat you by scoring only 10 points or less. We wont win a bigten championship that way or ever be apart of the 12 team championship series either. Doesnt matter how good the D is

OUT OF NECESSITY, came Kirks offensive philosophy 24 years ago (Small margin for error.) Having achieved major success in the 80's would have been the time to open up the thinking (and play book) but it never happened. His margin for error was greatly overcome and we were beating the Michigans and Ohio St's and Penn St's (at least we were being competitive!) We can see his logic here, but his offensive thinking didn't change. To his defense, the wins keep coming, reinforcing his mindset.
