@@sydsnott5042 Hahahahaha. That is funny. Do you play guitar? I get if you are a Metallica fan and just love the songs more. Totally understandable. But ask any guitar player who is better and they will laugh because it isn't even close. Many of the world's finest guitar players list Michael Schenker as an influence. None of them list Kirk Hammett. In my opinion, Hetfield is and always has been the only real talent in Metallica. The rest of the members were just along for the ride.

When you're remind Kirk's soloing skills have diminished, but his right rhythm hand definitely has a life that Schenkers doesn't. Schenker is a beast tho. Great clip.
@lifeisnice234 жыл бұрын
Lmao, that's the difference between a natural born soloist and a guitarist that has studied to become also a soloist, Schenker is a chosen one, Kirk a good student .
@cruachan11913 жыл бұрын
It's very popular to bash Hammett, but his rhythm playing especially is very underrated. Lets be honest, the guy he has to match night after night is arguably the best rhythm guitarist around (Dave Mustaine always says Hetfield, himself, Rudolf Schenker and Malcolm Young are the greatest rhythm guitarists in rock/metal)
@willsketchesmusic2 жыл бұрын
Kirk has always been the type of lead guitarist who composes his solos, he himself has said that improvisation is something that he has had to work long and hard on. I don't think that takes anything away from Kirk as a lead guitarist though, it's just he's better in the studio than in an impromptu jam.
@basgerritsen96693 жыл бұрын
I don't get how there is so much hate about people who critique kirk. It's pretty obvious that schenker can come up with something on the spot a lot better and he might have a stronger melodic sense. I do not like kriks work or style but the fact that he can't improvise that well doesn't make him bad. He clearly knew what he was doing back in the day and he is the type of musician who must think all his parts trough and write them piece by piece. Not bad necessarily just different. You might like his style you might not, those are just opinions. No need to defend anyone, also even if a toddler plays guitar better than you , you should still be allowed to dislike a guitarist. It's just a matter of taste and anyone should be free to express their opinion without getting ripped on, it's music, it's subjective. That said I still don't like kirks playing...
@EujenSandu2 жыл бұрын
All what you've just said is about right, except the fact that you never mentioned technique. And the core thing in playing guitar is exactly that: training to do it right, training your hands to be synchronized, your fingers to move on the strings without dirt. And this is the exact thing that Kirk skipped completely, dedicating all his time to mashing and thrashing. A fan could call it "his style". A guitarist couldn't.
@dragonpundit.64432 жыл бұрын
It makes him a poor professional...one that can't read doesn't know theory has poor technique and is just good enough for Hatfield which is okay but he is a joke not a guitar hero.

@jahjah674 жыл бұрын
Love Kirk’s enthusiasm but it’s just not good playing. Schenker is one of the few players from the 70’s who is possibly better than he was then. One of THE greats. He also seems like a decent guy. Kirk seems like a super nice guy and I’m happy for him that he has had all his success. As a guitar player, he isn’t a very good improvisor and that’s forgivable because he has and does write really good parts. It‘a funny that Schenker is such a big influence on him. He didn’t cop Schenker’s great vibrato or his melodicism. I can’t really hear Schenker’s influence in Kirk’s playing but it is fun to watch the guy play with one of his hero’s. Life’s short. Rock on, Kirk
@andthebeatgoeson694 жыл бұрын
I think there was a time when Kirk could have "hung" with Schenker. Just goes to show you that you can't be high level if you don't practice, no matter who you are.
@jahjah674 жыл бұрын
And The Beat Goes On I really like Kirk’s playing the first 4 years of the band particularly RTL. I’m not sure if Kirk’s just not a very good improviser or if he needs to work out his solos. Since he “came up with” that rhythm, he should have been able to nail it but it just didn’t sound very good. I’m not a Kirk hater, he’s a solid player and has written some very cool stuff. Plus he seems like a very nice guy but I wish he’d put away the wah and practice playing through changes. Rock on, Kirk!
@lifeisnice234 жыл бұрын
Spot on dude, Schenker is a force of nature, a volcano of creativity, it's almost 50 years he plays like the God he is and still put out quality music once a year, his catalogue is infinite, I've lost the count! Kirk is a super nice guy but he's sleeping on the fortune of Metallica's first four albums, his creativity is mediocre and he's becoming sloppier and sloppier .. That's the difference between a real artist who breathes music and a worker of rock who lives thanks to the music...

@@andthebeatgoeson69 ~ Kirk just doesn't have it in him to be great, no matter how much he practices.
@tommurrayGTR3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbrandt4816 He was great at one point, he just let it slip and getting back in shape may be beyond his interest. 83-00 is hard to argue with. He nailed his parts consistently. He isn't an improvisor, he wants to be! but he's not. There's really no point being mad at Kirk because he doesn't play like X and Y guitar players, he has style that he enjoys and from 83-00 I loved almost everything he did, from 2003 touring onwards he has let things slip, and Death Magnetic onwards have all had throwaway unmemorable solos... that's something fair to be disappointed about. I hope Kirk gets fired up enough on the next record and writes some good solos! He definitely has written some great ones! maybe James should be producing the solos with Kirk instead of Lars! might be a good start!
