This episode is about interspecies romance. Groundbreaking for its day. Shatner really delivers here.

Scenes like this are what make Star Trek TOS really special!

Exactly. Scenes like this really made you think. I've always thought Kirk's remarks here were particularly insightful: "Our species can only survive if we have obstacles to overcome. ... Without them to strengthen us, we will weaken and die."

Kirk's face in this scene is as sincere as humanly possible. William Shatner out-did himself. He made me feel every word.

I've been re-watching the entire original series this summer and Metamorphosis really impressed me and has become my new favorite. A definite sleeper epsiode that is Star Trek at its best ... at least for me.

I've no choice but to agree 💯% with you @Zobin211, this episode is very sweet and romantic including extremely creative. Gene L. Coon was actually really quite 🤔 a brilliant writer.

I named an ex " the companion " after this speech. I think my obsession with this show is why we broke up. Greatest Kirk monologue ever

This episode is very sweet, romantic, and creative. Zefram Cochrane is a very uniquely lucky & fortunate man to have the companion as such a friend. Yet, I've got to strongly disagree with Captain Kirk about love because in her own way or ways the Companion actually really did love Zefram Cochrane, it was just her version.

OK. Here's some trivial for all you folks out there. The Companions voice is actress Elizabeth Rogers whom you know as Lt. Palmer ftom the episode The Doomsday Machine. Actor Glenn Corbett there, Zephrum Cockran, if you will, is noted to be in the tv series, Route 66.

Well, that gives me an excuse to watch Doomsday Machine again (like I really needed one.)

I liked this episode a lot. Was light years better than the previous ridiculous "I, Mudd" S2E8

Vaio San You are right about that. I guess Star Trek alternated between some of the best episodes followed by some that I can’t watch anymore. I love this episode with Zefram Cochrane which gives us a plausible background on earth history and the discovery of warp drive. I don’t think they will ever have a movie version of “I, Mudd.”😁

Pretty much every Roddenberry episode (I, Mudd is based off of his story and Mudd is his self-insert) is pretty bad except for The Menagerie.

Time never runs out to find love....only our patience....like sifting through a sea of sand for the hope of finding that ever elusive diamond.

Hate to quote scripture, Picard and Shakespeare, but as the cliches go, "This, above all else; to thine own self be true." "Know thyself." "Love one another (as I love you)."

A perfect vessel for a perfect "companion" ? Believers are as Living Stones, built up into a Temple - what some call the Third Temple, is us, .. we, the people. A people was not chosen, but the chosen, are the people.
@thomashomza22558 жыл бұрын
There is no better an explanation of this human emotion ever written "Love" is a total union between a man and a woman.
@johnnyaingel57536 жыл бұрын
Wrong there is an even better love an unconditional LOVE the LOVE that the CHRIST jesus are elder brother had for GOD which made them one in SPIRIT and gave jesus all powers even of overcoming death itself that is truest LOVE of ALL in the UNIVERSE

There can never be love, Companion. You are a renegade monster who the universe would be better off departed.

Seems like an anti-captivity message. We may love our zoos and aquariums but the animals there suffer. Keeping any species captive in whatever ideal environment we have designed is still a prison. Seems logical.

Which is why I have no more interest in visiting the zoo. They aren't in their natural habitats.

I despise the Companion. I wish Spock's device has caused that stupid, glorified glowing fart even more discomfort.
