VW has emissions fraud problems worldwide. The Volkswagen emissions scandal, sometimes known as Dieselgate]or Emissionsgate, began in September 2015, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to German automaker Volkswagen Group. The agency had found that Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing, which caused the vehicles' NOx output to meet US standards during regulatory testing. However, the vehicles emitted up to 40 times more NOx in real-world driving. Volkswagen deployed this software in about 11 million cars worldwide, including 500,000 in the United States, in model years 2009 through 2015.- Wikipedia

EVs suck. There's no infrastructure, even in California. The only advantages are being able to charge at home and cheap energy prices, which California ironically have neither (most people are renters in the state.) Basically, EVs are rich people's toys.
@kenbob10714 ай бұрын
If you google search "California renters vs homeowners" the first thing that pops up says that the majority of people are NOT renters (55% own vs. 45% who rent). Plus EVs clearly out-perform ICE vehicles and don't kick out climate changing carbon from their non-existent tailpipes or smog producing pollutants which are proven to negatively affect health --especially of poor people. Most people don't travel more than 50 miles/day so range is not an issue. The only maintenance I've done in 5 years of owning a Tesla have been routine tire rotations, wiper blades and cabin air filter replacements. I also don't expect to ever need a brake job b/c I rarely need to apply the brakes. No oil changes, no emissions inspections, no gas station visits....EVs hardly "suck."

On paper, a Tesla’s less work, less maintenance than an ICE or hybrid… and a Tesla’s practical for its size, fast, etc. A Corolla Hybrid can go nearly 600 miles on a tank of gas, so for the tiny amount of people who drive hundreds of miles a day, that may be the better choice… but don’t most people drive less than 50 miles a day? If you’re a 2-car family, it makes sense to have a Tesla and a Toyota hybrid… the latter for road trips.

Just looked at the Tesla inventory for stores that are within 100 miles of where I live in the Denver area. There are 72 Model Ys, 6 Model 3s, 16 Model Xs, and 15 Model Ss, for a total of 109 Teslas in inventory in my area. There are 5 stores/service centers in my area within 100 miles. That means each Tesla Center averages a little over 20 inventory cars per center. That doesn't strike me a bad at all. In fact, it strikes me as excellent.

You mention Subaru, Toyota, and Honda, as the only 3 doing well, those are the only 3 choices I would buy, + I want my vehicle built in Japan. The future is plug-in hybrids, we will convert Tesla and all other EVs to plug-ins as well. And yes hydrogen is coming, it's all about electric drivetrain with a much smaller battery and an auxiliary power to meet your needs. Tesla EVs will end their life as parts vehicles for backyard builders.

One reason for the Teslas piling up is production overcapacity. Tesla increased its capacity faster than its sales. During its honeymoon period, Tesla was supply constrained, so it didn’t face the problems traditional OEMs do. Now Tesla needs to learn to balance production with sales without dealerships serving as a buffer.
@Fighter4Street4 ай бұрын
Agreed, what also caused this was the vehicle shortages after 2020. From like 2020 to 2023 you could not buy any vehicle at even MSRP. Tesla could easily sell every car they had. Now this is over and no dealership is able to sell their cars.

So they have to keep charging them or the batteries go bad?
@Hellsong894 ай бұрын
@@ratedm90 EV battery will degrade over time regardless what you do from moment it was produced, but yes you cannot let it go down to zero for any longer periods of time since that is where dangerous dendrites form inside the battery, witch are tiny, needle-like structures that can form on the electrodes of a battery over time, especially if the battery is overcharged or damaged. If these dendrites come into contact with the separator in the battery, it can lead to a short circuit and potentially cause a thermal runaway event, leading to a fire or explosion. For best service life battery should be kept at 20-80% capacity and in winter you cannot let it go under 30% as energy is needed to warm up the battery for charging. Charging it to 100% also takes longer well as degrade the battery faster. Same thing with fast charging. EV battery that has lost 30% of its capacity is considered to be essentially bad and needs to be replaced. This can take in optimal cases 20 years, but since most if not all people will fast charge when ever possible realistic utility life is 10 years. You can hear about breakthroughs in battery tech in every month from EV fanboy channels but time will tell. I for one wont be wasting my money on ticking time bomb, specially when my home insurance most likely wont compensate for EV burning the house down. All modern vehicles have some parasitic drain in them from car alarms to systems being in standby mode that cause vehicle left standing with out charging or periodically starting and long distance driving until battery is charged again to be discharged. On lithium batteries the issue is far worse for previously mentioned reasons and undercharged battery can have dendrites forming or simply causing thermal runaway event from putting too much current in while its low. I have salvaged several batteries from undervoltage situation and those are still working, but there is risks involved and after all EV can have thousands of these cells, where just one going thermal will cause chain reaction. Larger the battery more danger the fire is, but BMC can separate low condition or damaged cells some extent, but its not sure way method as fire can happen with out warning and effect is rapid and devastating due the heat generated. TL:DR Battery will degrade over time regardless what is done and will drain over time requiring to be charged to 80% every couple months or so.

However, the infrastructure, isn’t available. The electric companies always advise energy conservation during the summers. Will everyone be able to charge, when everyone has a EV???

First, California told EVERYONE to not use high-amperage energy at peak times, including lighting, clothes dryers and EVs. It was stupid to include EVs in the request, because EVs charge off-peak when you're asleep. Everyone WILL be able to charge with an EV as they charge outside of demand time. There are several aspects of the CyberTruck that I think are ridiculous. The steering wheel looks more like a console game controller. To open the glove compartment (actually it’s a drawer) you have to navigate to a particular screen on the big display and click on a button. The turn signals are on the steering wheel. There are no stalks on the column. Tires and wheel covers were designed together. However, the wheel covers had to be recalled because the covers were chewing into the tire sidewalls. And nobody has any idea how expensive replacement tires will be, it is assumed that replacements will only be available from Tesla. If the owner is towing a trailer with the truck, there are no Supercharger locations that will accommodate a pull through charging situation. Things may have changed because the Ugly Trucks are piling up. But initially the owner was required to sign a legal document that prevented to buyer from selling the truck for a year. This was to prevent buyers from obtaining a truck, just to turn right around at an inflated price. WOW, the MSRP is already about $100,000. And to conclude, Elon Musk lately has been making some bizarre decisions about the Tesla company.
