Live bait! Need ur trot line alot tighter and put some weights on it to hold it on the bottom. If line is to loose ur fish will get off. Catch 20 blue gill stretch line tight anchor it to bottom leave it over night. You will have a catfish

When my dad and I used to trot line for catfish, we would use live bluegill instead of cutting them up. (We did an experiment with live vs cut bait, alternating on each hook. All five we caught were on the live bluegill, none on cut bait). Also in shallow coves or summer time we’d tie 20’ or more of string to the beginning of the line to get the first set of hooks out deeper. Also we’d find a big ole heavy rock and tie to the end and stretch it out tight and drop it, that helps to keep it from getting tangled when a fish is on and it helps with hooking the fish better with circle hooks anyways. Live bait I think helps keep the turtles off too not always though! Great videos love the content, keep it up!

Im not a catfishing expert but cutting up some squid and putting them on limb lines with a weight has caught us lots of catfish. We'll check them periodically late in the evening/night and then again the next morning. Awesome video as usual 👍

Alot people don't know but most predator fish like catfish or even bass will not eat bluegills even cut bluegills I personally have never caught any fish on bluegills they must have a scent that most fish don't like and they do have the spiked fin as a defense weapon a lot of fish will not mess with them Chicken livers or gizzards are some good cheap catfish bait I also use Whitening fillets pretty good bait for cats like the videos keep them coming

I've used blue gills a lot and their the best catfish, Flathead catfish and bluecatfish bait there is .. I've used both cut and live bluegills but maybe skipjacks are a little better than blue gills...

just a tip from experience to stop from catching turtles and catch more catfish set bush hooks with medium to small sized live bluegill. But thats just how i do it you can try it if you want to.

Catching catfish, in my 30 years of experience they will eat anything but t picky if that makes any sense... They will eat anything from liver to doughball to fish parts. For instance I was having shitty luck. My son caught a porch we prepared it for lunch but I took the eyeball n put it on the hook n soon as it hit the water I nailed a 23pder. Try different bait. Don't stick to one thing. Even weird bait u don't think they will hit
