I remember playing SA2B at my grandma’s house as a kid and being so fascinated by all the ads in the City Escape level. I’d always stop to look at the ads and always try to imagine what the products being advertised were like. I’d do the same thing with the ads on various Mario Kart tracks too as a kid.

Remember when Sonic said "no copyright law in the universe will stop me"? My theory is that Sonic is an anti-copyright activist, defending the abolition of copyright and to keep things consistent, he refuses to claim copyright on himself, that's why there are companies using his likeness (I suppose that if he personally wreaks havoc with his superspeed if a company whom he disagrees uses his image)

As cool as that would be, my theory is to ignore everything from the Wii version of Colours which has to do with Sonic or Tails and consider the DS version canon. Eggman scenes from the Wii can stay, but Sonic is too much of a moron there, more so than in any other Pontac written game.

Friendly reminder that City Escape is pretty much San Francisco lmao, specially considering Radical Highway bridge. Also the fact Sonic Team comment said in their development that their time in San Francisco was hell so much that they added elements that you can break and gain points, so i wouldn't be surprised if City Escape/Radical Highway/etc were a middle finger to that city lmao (Also i think many of City Escape ads are just a joke, specially the Generations ones lmao)

The truck probably didn't hit anyone inside the cars, as one of the agents of GUN says right at the start of the stage, GUN was blocking all major roads to make Sonic follow the path they wanted him to follow, at the start of the stage there were people with cars moving around because they just started blocking roads with their cars They probably evacuated everyone in the road of the truck section so they could go with all force on Sonic, we can see that GUN feels more comfortable going all out when there are no citizen around, in Radical Highway, which is under construction so there are no cars, and Metal Harbor, which is military area, it is not at all like in City Escape with just GUN drones and robots, we bave jets firing at Sonic and Shadow, dropping bombs at them, etc.

@@MagnaEssence It's an artwork from "Yuji Uekawa" one of Sonic Team's official artists, which made the redesign of Modern Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Eggman back in 1998 in Sonic Adventure, also helped design many of the Sonic characters we have today, Shadow, Chaos, Tikal, Metal Knuckles, etc. And also the one who made the artworks for many Sonic games, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3, Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure, and probably more I'm forgetting about This artwork of Shadow in specific is from the Sonic Channel, a japanese website from Sonic Team created back in 2007 if I'm not mistaken, Uekawa-san is one of the artists from the Website alongside Yui Karasuno and some other artists who are also "character supervisors" from the Sonic series The website has a ton of unique original Sonic stories taking place in past locations from past games, with many of the characters we know and love, and also many new artworks made monthly by the artists from Sonic Team, sometimes as callendar art, sometimes as a cover art for a new story... the Shadow I'm using is one of those artworks, although the website is mainly in japanese, so it's quite hard to navigate through it

Omochao has an unused line saying that the Chao Principal's mustache is fake 2. The current principal doesn't look like the previous principals who all have pictures of themselves on the wall of the Principal's Room, they all don't have glasses, unlike the current principal, have beards, which thanks to Omochao we know his is fake, and have thicc eyebrows, which the current one doesn't have 3. In the Chao Black Market there is a picture of one of the many principals, which was probably taken away from the Principal's Room, unlike the others, that one which was taken is drawn over as if it was made to make fun of that principal, one of the things drawn on the picture is exactly a pair of glasses like the current principal 4. There is a statue on the Principal's room that matches exactly with the only picture that was taken to the Black Market and drawn over, and the statue blinks

it would be Planet of the Chaos - as in the bad guy in SA1. The plural of Chao is Chao as told to us in-game by Omachao in one of the extra menus (possibly the how to play menu option?) in the non-hd versions of the game (I know it's there somewhere on the gamecube version; but it seems to have been replaced with a generic pdf-like document on the steam version)

I always found it interesting how Chao in Space was a series of movies in the Sonic games. We had the first one in Sonic Adventure; I especially remember there being a billboard of it near Casinopolis that you can climb up as Knuckles. Then we had the second one advertised in Sonic Adventure 2 with the special edition DVD in SA2B and the remake in Sonic Generations, and finally we had the third on in Sonic 06. The first movie finally became real as an animated short.

@@NithProYT While I've never played Sonic 06 due to not owning any of the systems it was on then hearing major criticisms about it, I read on the Sonic Fandom wiki that there's a torn down billboard of Chao in Space III it in Crisis City in a ruined incarnation of Silver's future. I also forgot to mention that Sonic Adventure DX advertised a collector's edition of Chao in Space.

The 3 characters presented in the updated Phantasy Star Online ad include new characters added to the Gamecube Port. The game allowed you to pick a Job/Race/Gender combination, but not all combinations were available. However, the Gamecube added (from left to right) Force(mage)/Human/Male, Ranger/Human/Female, and Hunter(melee)/CAST(robot)/Female. PSO had a special shorthand to define the jobs though, so they were called "FOmar", "RAmarl", and "HUcaseal" respectively. Technically these aren't "characters" but they're default designs for characters you can create, primarily. Although some default designs are used as NPCs in some single player quests.

One of my favorite part of worldbuilding in games is the fake brands and products they would put in. I love walking around the world looking at the signs and designs that someone put there. Consider this: the Chao in Space 2 posters say the fill is by Sonic Team in SA2, but say it's by Sonic the Hedgehog in Generations. What if in-universe Sonic Team is Sonic's company (or he at least has some kind of major stake in it). That would explain why they're so comfortable using his likeness. The profits are why he owns his own plane and can wander the world without much of a care. He's actually extremely rich. Sonic, all along, was a business mastermind with several extremely successful ventures. That, or he inherited it all.

15:30 this is something I didn't think about back when I played Sonic adventure 2 battle on the GameCube when I was a teenager when it was new, but you see I'm actually from the bay area. Well the North Bay actually. Wine country as a matter of fact. An hour North of San francisco. So I have gotten some familiarity with San Francisco and knowing that they named a stage route 101 tells me that they base it off of actually kind of a famous freeway that goes basically from the Mexico border to the Canadian border as it goes through the whole state of california, oregon, and Washington. Where I'm from in Santa rosa, it's very common to drive on the 101. And yes the 101 most definitely goes through San Francisco and comes out the other side.

PSO "expert" chiming in. The Dreamcast ad is the covert art for PSO Ver. 2 on... the Dreamcast. The 2 Battle ad uses key art that I've definitely seen before but can't find the exact source for, but it features the three new character types introduced in, you guessed it, the GameCube version of the game. Consistent promotion!
