What happened about Gamergate is that the media, which was the main focus of GG, essentially used themselves to brand Gamergate as a harassment campaign. Gamergate was about outlets like Kotaku, IGN, etc getting special "gifts" from companies. Being flown out to special events, being given gift bags at conventions, and of course, being given early copies of games to review. The question was raised "What happens if you give a game a bad review?" The obvious answer is "well all those special privileges would stop, wouldn't they?" That's why Gamergate started as a push for game journalism to be held to a code of ethics similar to the one we thought regular journalists were being held to. Game's journalists shouldn't be flown down to special events or receive any gifts. Those would be a conflict of interest. If they receive these things, then it would be clearly disclosed in whatever articles they are writing about the subject or game. Also, advanced copies should be given out on a lottery system, so that neither company can hold it over the other's head. As Gamergate went on it was found out that things were even worse than they seemed. Some developers were in relationships with journalists writing articles about the games they worked on. Some even traded sexual favors for endorsements and favorable reviews. Of course, the game journalists didn't like that this was all getting out, and they didn't want it to stop either. Who doesn't like gifts and sex? The game's journalists colluded and all put out articles saying gamers were being mean to them for no reason. Anita Sarkesian was still running her scams around that time, so she and a few others sat on the sidelines, grabbed their knees, and went "ooo, ow! Me too! Me too!" The media of course loved this since now they were able to work together to claim that Gamergate was a hate and harassment campaign. Gamergate fizzled out since then, but it never really died, which is why Kotaku, IGN, and the rest of gaming journalism are nothing more than a joke these days and the websites are either closing down and/or trying to shift to other things. The problem is, at the same time Anita and people like her were able to sneak into game and pretty much every other media company and basically lie themselves into the situation we find ourselves in today. Remember the feminist push online to stop gatekeeping in fandoms and ban words like "Bossy"? Those were part of what led to this too.
@jtnachos168 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's kind of funny how so many people miss the memo that basically everything that came from an 'official' source about GG was outright lies. I never quite found myself agreeing with people, supposedly on our side, saying "GamerGate is dead" while laughing at the journos who still used it as a boogeyman. In my mind, GG had periods of dormancy, but it was never dead. From the beginning, I knew our goals, at a most basic level, was to keep their toxic ideologies from infecting our hobby, and to stop slandering us just for calling it out. Since journalists so staunchly refused to compromise on even just those points, GamerGate was innevitably going to be a war of attrition, one that continues on to this day.
@WeskerUmbrella48 ай бұрын
GG was never dead, we've "won the battle" but the people who were the enemy simply went in hiding/talking shit on Twitter, as usual. The war was still fought behind the scenes, as people responsible for GG were still toxic shits who spread the same rhetoric/ideology on Twitter, but the difference was that their reach (without a proper platform of influence) was negligible. Now they're a part of the companies that inject toxic woke narratives into gaming behind the scenes, which only proves it was a setback. The war was never over, as the same people who caused GG were still around, smearing shit all over the walls.

Sweet Baby is merely one of the symptoms of how deeply this ESG bullsh1t has been entrenched in our society. The rabbit hole goes much, much deeper, with the usual suspects like Blackrock and Vanguard pulling the strings behind the scenes. This is also a direct continuation of Gamergate. Last time gamers tried to fight against corruption in gaming journalism, only ended up being framed as a “harassment campaign against our stunning and brave minority women in gaming”. Now, gamers are better equipped and are ready to turn the tide, because the other side’s dirty laundries are aired out.

Like, I’m a trans girl myself, and frankly, I do agree that some people just don’t want to see ideologies such as gender identity in there games. I personally don’t mind them, but if they’re in there, then the game has to be good alongside with featuring that theme. Sadly Sweet Baby would rather slap a trans flag on a poorly made piece of shit called “GaMe,” than actually maybe make that game a good experience. That’s what I hate. Those themes shouldn’t be forced into those games with the expectation that it’ll make those games good. Cuz that alone won’t.

He doesn't care to much really.
@BombadSchnell6 ай бұрын
my understanding having watched his other videos on this is that he thinks Sweet Baby Inc isn't important because even without Sweet Baby Inc all the companies would probably do it themselves anyway, because they're all filled with people with the same views. Sweet Baby Inc is just a way to accelerate the process slightly or a grift. To us it's useful because it helps us tell quickly which games are actively filled with this but in the grand scheme of things taking down Sweet Baby Inc doesn't change the direction of the industry.
@Dice-Z6 ай бұрын

@GikamesShadow5 ай бұрын
Wrong. And right. Asmongold does research but only base level. What he operates on is logic. Which is why when he explains it, it often time makes sense. That doesnt mean he is correct of course but that is how he operates. Its how he views things. He doesnt care if there is more to it, he goes by logic alone. And if that logic doesnt follow suit someone is gonna correct him and tell him why he is wrong. And often times he goes on and corrects himself because of it too. As for SBI. I personally agree that SBI isnt that big of a deal. However it is big enough of a deal to be a problem. The bigger issue however is the actual corp behind SBI that also funds SBI. Currently, if you allow the analogy, we are fighting a medieval war. However instead of attacking the castle we are being distracted by the small fort just far enough away for the Castle not to care too much. But in turn what should be seen as knights attempting to free the kingdom is being propagandized to look like bandits and soldiers from an enemy kingdom, attempting to R**e and Pillage as the court only focuses on the bad actors within the enemy lines.

We should have made the lists and never forgotten the names on it but people were cowards and afraid of the dumb labels that have since lost all weight. The whole complaint about the Curator is stupid. Why? Because there are probably thousands of curators on steam and I would not be surprised if there was a list of games that had black people in it, one they probably would not have a problem with. I'm sure there are some that might use it to avoid such games, but if the games are good and the thing brings value to the game, I can easily see somebody following such a list for more recommendations. The problem is that SBI brings no value to games. On the contrary, they only seem to make things worse, so it makes sense why they want people to be in the dark. They may mention these games on their own site, but that is because they believe only those who drink the same koolaid will go to the site. Having the info on Steam for all to see on the other hand, exposes the information to the broader public, especially people who don't realize how far things go. It wouldn't matter if the curator labeled the games "recommended" or "informational" either, because what they really don't want is exposure.
