My favorite skin tones were the darker ones, they really looked smooth. There is so much of a variety and colored pencils really capture nicely the tones. I do use Gamsol but on those top layers the white or lighter colors work nicely. Have you ever used a clear gesso on your paper since the colors ride on top anyways? I have found that I get a bit more ability to layer but the colors are more vibrant and it helps my wrist with arthritis.

For the lighter skin tones could you also use the slightest amount of blue? Because for light cool toned skin sometimes you can kinda see the blue in their skin. I personally have cool toned skin and I was curious about whether or not using a little blue would look good or not. also shadows are sometimes purplish but it's dependant on some things, so would using like a light layer of purple look good? I don't have any coloured pencils personally so I'm a bit curious Thank you for this video! It was helpful :) I've been looking into getting coloured pencils cause I wanna add colour to my portraits but paint is still a bit intimidating

WOW! You really worked wonders with those few colors. I for sure don’t have the skills and talent you possess but I am so motivated to put what you showed to a test. I am going to use your printable to help me in my adult coloring books. I enjoy coloring people/ portraits the most and struggle to get the skin tones especially the darker ones to look the way I want. Thanks for the video and the free printable 💕 Plus, you have saved me money on buying a separate Skin tone pencil set for now anyway.

Kirsty, I followed your examples a few nights ago and swatched my polychromos and prismacolors. Took a bit to get the hang of it, but I was amazed at how I was able to create these varied skin tones with just 5 pencils. Thank you so much for your videos. I feel confident enough to tackle my first portrait! 💕

I subscribed to the legacy classes last night such a great idea to group all the videos and provide them for sale in easy to follow format as you embark on your new courses. It lets people try out lots of different medias but its also really good for people like me who are good at mostly self -led learning who don't neccessarily need all the tutored support.

I was wondering do you have any tips or tutorials on color substitutions. For example, if I needed a beige pencil crayon, but dont have one, what pencil crayon could be substituted for beige? Or if I need Cyan? Is there one or more pencils crayons that I can use to find a substitute for Cyan?

But the dark skin tones especially the last one always looks so great because you can be a bit more free with the layering I feel. Overall I’m enjoying the process and hope to see more improvement, Thank you!

I try to work with dry medium, ans use mostly pen and color pencils, pastel pencils, compressed charcoal etc. I find the tips and tricks u share in ur videos very useful. and actually for art, your channel is probably the thrird channel --in my four years of my creating art period--, from where I actually benefitted. Honestly, u deserve a thanks from me. Am grateful to your channel. thank u Kirsty. thank u very much. *I mainly am a poet, but I do Poetry sometimes with lines, forms and colors(for doing that, the more I tried to elaborate the more it felt my lack of some basics. so I had to start practicing anatomy and color wheel and all the A B C s as a beginner for that. I started doing this from late 2017...hence I mentioned the four years span.. cause I ad to rely on utube for a lot of things that I know now and use regularly in my art.
