Our guest today is Tim Wilson of Microbe Organics. Some listeners may know him better as Microbe Man from his helpful posts on many internet forums; Tim is a long time friend and colleague who has taught me much of what I know regarding microscopy and evaluating compost teas. 
I consider Tim to be one of the foremost experts and researchers on aerated compost teas and microbial amendments in North America; Tim also founded www.logicalgardener.org, a free forum for gardeners that has a wealth of information. I am honored today to have him on the show!

FYI, I talked to Tim today and we are shutting down the site due to lack of activity. There was some good dialogue on there back in the day but it's not really being utilized anymore.

I wonder if you have an anaerobic compost pile, you could brew a tea for 72hrs to grow the ciliates (?) That feed on anaerobic micro life, if that would remediate the anaerobic activity?

Hey tad, I've been trying to germinate some seeds and my soil has a pretty decent fungal mass And it seems to have stunted the growth of seedlings. I've had better luck germinating in top soil I've scooped from a digging site. Could it be that the fungus is restricting the growth of the seedling because cannabis likes bacteria domination in and around it?

I think too much microbial activity when sprouting seeds can lead to more pathogen issues. That's why commercial horticulturists use mostly sterile/inert mixes without compost or other sources that could bring in pests/pathogens or too much microbial growth.

Here's a good seed starter recipe we used on our farm: 3.8 cubic ft Peat Bale (expands to 6 cubic ft) 5.5 cubic ft of perlite 2 cubic ft high quality compost/worm castings 8 c. Oyster Shell Flour or Ag Lime 4 c. Glacial Rock Dust or Basalt 8 c. Kelp Meal 4 c. org. Alfalfa Meal 4 c. Microbe Catalyst
