Another fun episode. Animalize was the last album I bought before I stopped listening to KISS and then got back to them years later. Was fun to hear your thoughts. Congrats on 3,000!

Love those bumper stickers. This is exactly why I always consider this album the "heavy metal" KISS record. I know it's not the heaviest KISS record, but growing up there was a rock shop in the mall called Martin Enterprises. Around 1984, they had the greatest stuff. Motley posters, Maiden patches, all the evil stuff you wanted to buy, but couldn't. It's those bumper stickers, that just remind me of that era. Hence, this is their 'heavy metal' era for me. That FUNKY product era, that turned into incredible glam posters during CN 😂. Great discussion! Have a wonderful week.

That rock shop sounds really cool! It reminds me of a local record store we have around here that does a good job of keeping the vintage rock/metal vibe alive. Every time I walk in, it's like going into a portal lol Thanks man, have a great week too 🤘

I never really appreciated just how inspiring the lyrics were on this album, until we starting reading them out loud 🔥 Glad you enjoyed the episode!

Great show folks! I saw the tour for Animalize in Binghamton, NY. One of the few shows that Mark St John played live with KISS. He actually played the whole show. Seeing that show allows me to able to say I have seen EVERY line-up in KISStory!

Every time you say it, it blows my mind!! 🤯 I'm very glad you had that experience... there's no way to have known how special that show would end up being, but you were there!! 🔥You're one of the very few KISS fans that can say that 👏

People say the 80s is the worst era but I seem gravitate more towards the bands of that era and I wasnt born until 88
@SonnyThomasShow1Ай бұрын
80s KISS has a lot of great energy as they were focusing on the music since their image had changed.

People also say the 90s was the worst music... and the 00s, and the 2010s and even now too lol I say enjoy whatever makes you happy, because the 80s had some GREAT music! What's your fav 80s band??

At one point, I had heard Under The Gun during the 80’s after I had checked out. I wasn’t impressed and I was still checked out. When I heard Hide Your Heart…now, that song checked me back into the band. As I was getting to know their back catalog, I listened to Animalize and when I got to Under the Gun, I remember saying…oh, that song. Still hated it. The next song though, Thrills in the Night, I was totally in love with. To this day, it’s my third favorite KISS song behind Hide Your Heart and Detroit Rock City.

I have an old interview from the UK when kiss was touring for Animalize. The dj was gonna play Murder in High Heels and asked Gene what it was about. He just said, "A woman walked in and she killed me". That's it. I always thought that was funny

HAHAHA that's awesome!! I've never heard that; thanks for sharing 👏

I recently spun this one. It's a decent record. The only songs I don't care for are Get All You Can Take and Thrills in the Night. I am more of a Gene guy than a Paul guy and I like Gene's songs on this one. I don't really care about the lyrics and with KISS most of them are silly anyways! I've Had Enough and Under the Gun are bangers though. Also, I don't really care for Mark's shredding on this one and enjoy Bruce's work on the ends of both sides of the record much better. Paul has some shrieking vocals on this album in my opinion. I do enjoy the live VHS from this era and also the OTSB with Mark as a historical piece. Great video!

Animalize Live and Uncensored, which of course was recorded live at Cobo Hall, Detroit Michigan. Also played live over the radio on WLLZ Fm, on the night of the concert and again replayed on New Year's Eve. I was in the 4th row. On Paul's side of the stage, and me and everyone I was with can be seen during Heavens on Fire and some other songs in the video. Pretty damn cool!👍🤘🎸 Paul was talking to the fans and how he felt. During the Live show, he makes it very clear by what he says to the crowd. They said Animalize Uncensored, it is censored. I have a recording of the live show on cassette tape, that was from the live radio broadcast, and there is alot more on the tape than the video. Gene is the hunter, it is a Gene sex filled lifestyle song. Bondage, and other sexual enuendo. Listen to Led Zeppelin "Lonely is the Hunter". If your trying to figure out Gene Simmons's writing style, think about anything you can slap together lyric wise, but using his lifestyle at the time. That's as close as you can get.

Nice in-depth discussion! Personally, I'm a huge fan of three of the four Gene songs on this album, with "Burn Bitch Burn" being the exception. Musically, yeah, but man, those lyrics are unforgivably bad. Anyway, I'm no music-theory genius, but by my count, "Lonely is the Hunter" is one of the only Kiss songs in an odd time. Count through the riff - it's in 7! As far as Mark St. John's guitar playing, to my ear it sounds too much like a turkey gobbling, haha! So, I'm not as much of a fan of the lead playing on the album. Except for the tunes Bruce ghosted ("Lonely" and "Murder in High Heels") It's interesting when someone points out something you've never noticed before. For example, I never noticed just how many cliches Gene used in the lyrics on this album. And now it's so glaring I can't ignore it 😂
@kissarmythingsАй бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the show!! And thanks for your comment 🙏 I looked it up and I think you're right! Lonely Is The Hunter is in 7/4 ... I never would've caught that!! Thanks 🤘
@underlordsuniverse7823Ай бұрын
@@kissarmythings Another thing I noticed about Lonely is the Hunter is that the verse and chorus are different lyrics/melody but over the same riff. I think that's an additional feature that helps make the bridge section, right before the solo, stand out so much.
