KISS Flight Controller Soldering and Setup

Here I walk you through the process of soldering and setting up your KISS flight controller from Flyduino.net
It's a very easy flight controller to set up. You can follow the instructions at flyduino.net.
Make sure you read the pinout diagram to make sure you're soldering eveything that you will be needing. I use Sbus, but you may use PPM or PWM so check the pinouts!
I'm working on setting it up with a MicroMinimOSD so that will be a video coming up.
I've now had the chance to fly it outside and it is absolutely amazing.

hey there! is it a must to flash escs before use? I am going to be using kiss FC with littlebee 30A blheli_S, will I need one of those programmer tools to fly out of the box? If so, could you please point me to a good one that will work with my escs? thank you

Thank you for your responce, the filfer is set to - OFF i am running defolt PID's as it is flying smooth and true will up the rates once problem is solved it is a 160 quad with T motor 1806-14 KV 2000 motors 3bladed 3in props with 18a Kiss ESC's

+Barry Anderson the LPF filter off should be ok, but try moving it to high, or medium high (and on down the line and see if there's a difference). Also definitely give it a good tuning. Default pids never work out. Are your 18 amp escs getting hot? What brand propellers are you using?

Hi when I press choose on the dfuse program no software comes up for me to upgrade to the kiss plz help I have 2 built quads worth about $700 each with alien frame. So I'd like to get them up in the air thanks

Droneva I think you can flash in dfu mode by using the kiss configurator now without having to use dfuse software. I'm not 100% sure on that though. I haven't flown kiss in more than a year. I would recommend doing some research on the kiss rcgroups page.

Claudio Pozo Veloso that's really strange. sorry to hear you're having issues. just make sure all the wires of your kiss24a was are connected properly and same with s.port. it's been so long since I've flown kiss so they might have changed some things in the firmware.

Hi, I have very nearly the exact setup you are using with a x4r frsky RX. The problem I am having, after upgrading everything and making the needed adjustments and hopefully successful calibration of the ESC's, is this. When I plug in the lipo I will sometimes get al the esc startup beeps but sometimes only one. The most common occurrence is that motor 2 and its ESC will start running with no control at all on my TX. After a little bit other motors will suddenly spool up and run with no control available on the TX. I have tried multiple RX's and everything seems to be working fine on the FC and the PDB seems to be good. I have set up for sbus and installed the beta and the other earlier firmware checking for an issue there. I have bound rebound checked all solder joints etc etc. I have tried the default down and right left stick movement for arming with no effect. I can also see movement in the GUI COnfiguration. I feel like I must just be doing some stupid thing wrong as this is my first quad build using these or any components. I have done a lot of pretty advanced builds for fixed wing though. Including Vector setups and extensive telemetry setups for my Taranis. Here is my component list. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated as I am stumped. Should I just do a PPM install? HMB 235 X-6 Frame (GREAT FRAME!!) Emax MT 2204-II KV=2300 motors Emax BLHeli 20A ESC (standard size) BEC 2a 5V Oneshot125 Kiss FC with the new button bridge (FW beta 1.02 RC25 I believe) Maytek MINI POWER HUB w/ BEC 5V & 12V FrSky X4R 3/16 Channel with Sbus and Smartport MinimOSD Micro Then just normal VTX and Camera I am using a Taranis X9E TX (LOVE IT! but will likely move to the HORUS) I am completly at a loss. I used kiss FC and a blhi_s on my build. Everything is fine but the throttle will not respond when I give left stick a power after arming. When I move and jerk the quad the fc responds. However no throttle. Should I do a blheli passthrough by adjusting min and max throttle? Help! Getting frustrated with kiss fc!

I have tried this new Kiss FC on two of my Quads by just swapping with my flyduino multiwii FC boards got both of them flying great but motors get extremly hot after 30 seconds flight. Can any one surggest a solution ?

+Barry Anderson it could be a couple different things. Did you tune the pids properly after switching? What is your filter set to in the gui?

hey - did you update all your escs before hand? no passthrough is a bit annoying coming from bf/cf with direct soldering

+jamble7k Yea I did. Even on my betaflight FC's I still update my ESCs before hand. For having a convenience downside, the flight controllers upside outweigh those downsides in my opinion. I've really enjoyed flying it! It's flight characteristics are one of a kind in my opinion.

How do you calibrate your ESC's with the Kiss flight controller? I have Eachine Blhelis esc but thay have a signal wire . Do you think they would work with the kiss flight controller

Jeff Warhawk I would think so. I don't remember the calibration process off the top of my head as I haven't flown kiss in forever, but I think it's the same as everything else, calibrating in the motors tab.

+proline1349 There is a spekt. sat port to the right of the three s.bus pads I soldered too. It's a type of jstxh connector that the spekt sat uses. If you look at the three tan things it's the one that is by itself on the top of the board

Yes bud a black and a white which I assume translates as my black for your black and my white for your yellow

thanks! i'm glad this video could help. Sorry for the delay in response. Yes you do have to bridge it. But now you don't have to use DFuse as the new KISS GUI lets you flash using Zadig.

+proline1349 no it doesn't have to be upgraded. but i recommend it. generally with upgrades, code works better.

+proline1349 you should likely go ahead and upgrade it anyway then, that way you go through the whole steps to getting it to connect in dfu mode. if you have another program like zadig for stm32 connection there will be issues

Hello I didn't read through all the comments, and you may not have talked about this already, but in the video you didn't use kiss escs, and you never mentioned anything about calibrating non kiss escs. Did you have to calibrate? How did you do it, and how did it fly?
