Glad to see I wasn't the only person who saw this new model kit and thought of converting it to the KISS van. The fun part for me is I no longer have my original van pieces, but some how, some way, I never lost the decals. So I'm thinking of printing them on decal paper (so I can preserve the originals) and give it a go.

That is an awesome idea of re-printing the decals! Super cool, you still have those. I bet that was a nice surprise and find! Have a good week.

I'am a pro scale model builder and I had the Kiss Van model when I was about 8 yrs old. Wish I still had it! I cut the box up and put the side cool pics on my bed room wall! And of course I made the van a glue-bomb !

That's awesome! I never thought about the box being used as pin-ups, I'm sure that happened a lot. Take care.

Thanks for the video Ric,,,as a teen ,I tried my hand at putting together models a little,, and like you said there is a lot of craftsmanship that goes into it....love all the old references in that catalog to Farrah, and B.J. and the Bear,,that was a whole different world than what we live in now...good stuff brother,,,hope your week is good, take care

I had a KISS van...that my parents bought for me back when i was 5. My dad assembled it for me (even though he hated KISS)...and i actially sold it assembled a few years back on ebay when i sold off the bulk of my collection

Probably around 6, my Dad put together 'Daisy's Jeep', Dukes of Hazzard model kit for me. I remember being disappointed, the box looked so cool, but the wheels didn't move LOL. I guess my brain couldn't' put together the fact a model kit, wasn't like a Matchbox Car. Love hearing the memory of your KISS Van! Super cool. Have a good week.

I vaguely remember seeing the KISS van in the store as a kid, begging for it but being told by mom no. Rightfully so, I tried models before and it was an epic fail. Like you said, it's definitely an art. Best thing I got from trying to do models was the buzz from the glue, haha! So fruity smelling at the time..😀👍🏼
@ItsAllForYouDemon3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love the smell of that glue. If I smelled that again, it would totally take me back to Shannon's Drug Store in St. Joe (where I got the General Lee and Daisy Jeep Models). Like you, my Dad had to put them together for me, because I was horrible at it. But I remember loving the clean smell of that glue (not that I huffed it, just getting a whiff of it as he was building my models). My model days didn't last long, because I couldn't grasp they were just for show. My little kid mind didn't understand that. I'm sure my Dad's patience wore thin....from then on, if I wanted a car, it was Die Cast, Matchbox, Hot Wheels of the glory of ERTL. I need to go watch some DUKES... Have a good week man. Take care.

I still have mine today and the paint job is basically sink the body in a bucket of water taped to a coat hanger and swirl the water around and shoot candy colors over top of the water and the white plastic body shell and pull it out gently to let the paint adhere to the body shell, and let it dry with a hair dryer and clear coat the body shell, at one point on eBay the decals were available to do any Chevy van, I did not use the custom parts I did put some mag wheels on it and fat tires and side pipes, When I did mine I used Candy Apple Red, Candy Apple Purple and Candy Apple Blue, and clear-coated it after it dried then added the original decals and clear coat of those also and rubbed out the whole body, when I built it back in 1977, S lot of people call it Hydro Dipping, The instruction sheet calls it Swirladelic, I wish I had a way to show you pictures it's a pretty cool looking Chevy Van with the KISS decals on all four sides.

Hey Ric ! Loved the video and memory piece. I had this model. I put this model together when I was a young lad. I also remember as you mebtion, how difficult this model was to make it look anything like the picture. I do remember how I had an idea how to make it. I believe for the body of the can I went with a solid cover. I remember being frustrated because of the picture, it was difficult to do. I belive I went with a blueish color as in like the Destroyer background color. Individual parts in the van, especially the motor, I painted different pieces a different color using the colors each persona used. As in : Peter = green, purple = Paul, Gene= Red and Ace = Blue. It was weird looking but it worked. I also put the autographs on the backdoor. It was fun, but challenging. Of I would've known, I would have just left it all sealed up. Lol.
@ItsAllForYouDemon3 жыл бұрын
That's perfect! So cool to hear. I imagine a kid staring at the box, and the white plastic in front of them, would be disheartening, but also a fun challenge. Love to hear about where you placed the autographs as well! Have a good week.

Cool subject. That AMT catalog is rad! I think late 1980 my Mom bought me the Amt KISS van from Zody's( Zodys). I don't have one now....maybe some day. Occasionally one will pop up on Ebay. Ric. Don't know if aware of Crypticon Kansas this year. Maybe you'll attend. If so, hope to see ya there.🤘🏻🎃

Wow, would've been cool to see that Ford Van done Kiss style. Anyways, in the New Kisstory Biography, was that you with the huge Paul Stanley face t-shirt waiting outside in line for a Kiss Convention? I know you had one of those shirts. Please elaborate if it was you. Thanks!!!!
@ItsAllForYouDemon3 жыл бұрын
No, that wasn't me. I believe that footage was from the 95' Convention (I never attended those). There is a quick shot of Paul wearing my shirt from KONFIDENTIAL in the doc though. I felt the same sense of wonder / amazement, I did back in 93'. Have a good week.
