It's been so long since I last played this game, I can barely remember how I usually play it! Well, not that it matters, because there's a killer android after us, and oh boy is she pissed!

While the comedy is more slap stick in this one, I think the crew of the ship and how you get to know each character more as time goes on makes up for the lack of classic SQ humor. Good episode as always, looking forward to next Tuesday already!

Oh, I agree, the game is solid from start to finish. It may not have that SQ "feel," but if you stop obsessing about that (I really need to learn how to do that), it's an absolute gem of a game.

Cliffy seems like the kind of guy who has "lost" a lot of captains in the past. Any man who wants to rebuild a murderbot and is happy when he wins the chance to collect your remains is dangerous to say the least.

I always loved it when Space Quest - or any Quest, went into hard core survival mode (for this genre anyway), and Kiz Urazgubi was always a highlight. That creepy ship with a unreadable timer, the rocky plateau "platforming", the somewhat obscure puzzles unless you remember them forecasted on the SAT test - I didn't, so I was working it out for a good while - it was a fun highlight of the game. Still is really, though I can't recapture the magic of not knowing the solutions.

Yeah, my favorite parts of this game is actually this planet (Kiz Urazgubi) and the Klorox II colony that's coming up later. They really nailed the otherworldly feel of those places.

I'm loving this series so far. I only ever got around to playing 1-4 when I was a younger, and didn't get a chance to play 5 or 6. (I think 5 came out during the time I had my first job/apartment and no money for a computer or games). Always sort of meant to, but for some reason never got to it (as with so many other games sadly). So I'm finally getting a chance to see the plot for this one, and get some history behind it, all at the same time.

Ah, SQV is such a fun game. You seem to be playing the game in the order that I remember as well. I recall first visiting Kiz Urazgbi when I played through SQV, but that was several years ago. I understand that as a SQ game this game is remarkably different from its predecessors, but that having been said, I feel that SQV is still my favorite of the series as a whole, and one of my top 10 favorite adventure games of all time. Perhaps a question for one of your reading the comments videos - if you had to list your top 10 favorite adventure games of all time, what would they be? (To make it more fun, you can only choose one game per series - i.e. one Space Quest, one Monkey Island, etc.) Or, if not for a reading your comments video, maybe just a fun top 10 list video. You've played so many interesting titles, I would definitely be interested in seeing your list! As always, I look forward to more!

Interesting. I always do the bit where you pick up Spike first, but I got a bit confused -- I knew it wasn't K.U., but I had already said that by the time I was trying to work out the correct planet, and then I figured, "What the hell." :)
@MagusMarquillin
@MagusMarquillin 7 жыл бұрын
I usually just go in the order in which the orders were given, which is what places spike first, which gives the player a lot of time to figure out how to house train him. It's too bad these missions are the only ones to let you choose your path non linearly - not that was ever really space quest's thing, but with all the planets (albeit most of them hostile to life) you can set a course to there is a sense of freedom much greater then space quest 3 felt like it had.

I wish somewhere existed the voice files for this, you are very right, it has a far different feel then the rest of the games, although Space Quest 6's visual style was...strange, to say the least. I mean I enjoyed it, but both 5 and 6 you just got the feeling something was missing from both of them, and that was the two guys working together. Did you ever play through Quest for Glory? They had a very similar sense of dark humor, and although the death scenes usually weren't as great, the game play shines and actually has held up very well. I actually really enjoy V, which is the "black sheep" of the series, however, it's the first game I really played where player choice mattered. Don't save any of the girls and literally let them burn in hell? Fine by us. You'll get screwed for being a jerk, but you could still MAKE that choice, and that's what really stood out to me about it, more then any other game at the time.

Sadly, the only mention ever of SQ5 on CD was a note in the hint book saying it would happen sometime in the future. It never did. As for QFG, I have tried to play it numerous times (one time on an early livestream!), but I suck so bad at it. I've never been good at RPGs, and, even though it's an RPG/adventure hybrid, it's still too much RPG for me.

I guess, that planet name gives a bit of foreshadowing. What I have NEVER understood is why the two murderdroids were sent after Roger. The description told us that the postcard was for a FREE mating whistle. It would have made far more sense, if they were dispatched after you, for ruining a slot machine.
@spacequesthistorian
@spacequesthistorian 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it would! I think the slot machine even identifies itself as a Gippazoid machine in the EGA, so it would even be canon. The thing is, though, Mark Crowe came up with the Arnoid in the original SQ3 and WD-40 in SQ5 (so he was really into debt collector robots, for some reason) and both of the Guys had basically forgotten that Scott put in the word "free" (as in, "FREE mating whistle") on the form in SQ2. That's the boring answer: it's an oversight. But it's more fun to speculate about conspiracies and alternative ways to fix this plot hole. :)
@jeremygeorgia4943
@jeremygeorgia4943 4 жыл бұрын
@@spacequesthistorian Considering how much the whistle cost to make, Vs. how much money the slot machine cost, I would think they would be worried about the slot machine. MAYBE, they couldn't legally go after him because of the slot machine AND they were worried that Roger would file a claim for a refund, like the message suggested. MAYBE, Roger actually DID file a refund claim, and the whistle was part of their refund scam. They then followed up with a contract on his life, to remove the evidence. Somewhere, there might be some shady records that Rog could find, that would "Terminate" that contract & expose Gippazoid.
@spacequesthistorian
@spacequesthistorian 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeremygeorgia4943 Except Roger is far away from home and not the owner of the slot machine, so he couldn't file a claim. And the bartender in SQ4, when you go back to the bar, says ROGER owes him money for the broken slot machine. Anyway, it's fun to theorize. You could make a whole fan fic story out of this.
@jeremygeorgia4943
@jeremygeorgia4943 4 жыл бұрын
@@spacequesthistorian From what I could tell, the machine malfunctioned & failed to pay out. It seems like there was some message about contacting the company for a refund. Maybe not. Maybe, the bar owner already got reimbursed, but also wanted to collect from Roger. In any case, there might have been incentive for Gippazoid to get back at Roger, but they couldn't technically do anything because the machine broke. Concocting a mail fraud scheme & sending collections after him under false pretenses, might have been the next best thing.

27:12 I loved SQ5 as a kid - and as a Trekkie - but as an adult, its veering towards being more overtly a parody of Star Trek works against it in my opinion. Space Quests 1 through to 4 felt distinctly like their own thing. They made fun of all kinds of sci-fi, but also established their own universe with their own distinctive style. Space Quest 5 is more like Galaxy Quest the movie: it's funny and a brilliant comedic take on Star Trek, but it loses something of it's own identity in the process, never quite reaching the same heights as the first four games, and for my money even Space Quest 6 felt more in keeping with the style of those first 4 games in the series. Don't get me wrong, SQ5 is a beautiful game. But it doesn't truly feel like Space Quest.

Flo mentions upon arrival that the expected waste beacon at Kiz Urazgubi is not there, which begs an interesting question: why was the Eureka sent there in the first place? Was there a waste beacon initially and did WD-40 use it for target practice? Did WD-40 somehow manage to lure the Eureka to Kiz Urazgubi with a false waste pickup request? Or was someone within StarCon in on the whole thing and did they arrange this bogus pickup for her? Was it Raemes T. Quirk himself who more than willingly sent a lethal gynoid on Roger's ass? So many unanswered questions!
