Soaping 101 has thought me a lot and i love this channel. But unfortunately i think this recipe is incomplete or mixed up. It should either have a emulsifier or should not have honey in it. I tired it and did everything but, as we all know oil and water dont mix. My honey stayed separated from the wax and oils, BUT it is not a total waste of materials as the very basic lip balm is simply coconut oil and bee wax. it is only irritating that the honey can be seen sitting like a sad child at the bottom of the container.
@farihaislam70873 жыл бұрын
Because the honey is water doluble and wont mix with the oils , basic science . Now the lip balm has been exposed to water (honey) , it may develop bacteria . If you do wanna add honey you beed to add an emulsifier and a preservative , otherwise just skip honey or its equivalent.
@KittenBowl15 жыл бұрын
This recipe is not very good. You should never have any kind of water such as honey in oil only based formula such as lip balm. If you ever want to use emulsifier, you need strong preservative (not GSE or anything natural), in which case it will be a cream not balm. This recipe is developed by someone who doesn’t know what she’s doing.. As you’re making it, you can even see the honey sinks to the bottom, along with what it looks like vitamin E oil? Because you didn’t really stir first and blend with other oils.. Honey is totally unnecessary and it would cause mold for sure.

(my vit e oil that I use has extra oils in it...so I used that too...I'm am oil fanatic haha). turned out wonderful. I can feel the difference between store bought and homemade....I usually just do soap and bath scrubs...but i gotta step into the whole homemade making world ;-)

Honey is water soluble....how do you manage for the honey to fully incorporate with the oils? when I add honey to my balms, the honey sinks to the bottom as I am pouring the lip balm and I end up with a bunch of balms with mostly honey.

Honey is nt required in lipbalms. I never use it.. It makes lopbalm sticky as well nt mix wd oils
@authenticnanz8 жыл бұрын
This is a fantastic tutorial! I followed everything step by step, however I keep running into one particular issue; the honey doesn't dry and mold as fast as the other ingredients. It melts to the bottom. It gets real sticky and gooey towards the bottom. It's a little frustrating :-/.
@iluminameluna7 ай бұрын
I once tried glycerin, suggested by my dermatologist. BAD idea. It wouldn't incorporate, of course, so I had to scrap a whole batch of salve bcs of course glycerine is an ether, not an oil & honey is a water base, which isn't an oil either, so you can't blend either of those into your lip balms. Just skip them all. Use oils, 2/3 of them hard oils, w/ a wax, and castor at least 10% of the entire formula. It does WONDERS for your lips, & 5% of Vit E as well. My GROWN kids love my salves in humid & cold weather climes both, & those 2 ingredients are never missing. I do recommend Nature's Bounty Vitamin E w/ limonene oil. It's barely noticeable, but it's not only edible but good in your skin as well. Makes wounds heal faster, & you can take it as drops in your food. I but it & gift it to my kids, as well as use it in my sauces & my cereal.

soaping101 I know it's an older video, but perhaps you'll be kind to answer. As you were pouring, there was a darker liquid at the bottom of the melting pot. Wasn't that the honey? If so, hasn't the honey trapped the vitamin e?

@ghettocountry86785 жыл бұрын
Ok I was wondering about other oils that I could use for the hardness of it, instead of using coconut oil, do you think coconut butter would work well and was gonna use a sunflower base oil instead of almond oil. Just curious, haven't experimented making chapsticks but wanted to make a good solid one but with a very sleek feel. My Grandmother made all these types of products back in the 60's and 70's and I'd like to try it out see how I do.OH and also wanting to ask what would be a good pigment or coloring product you would recommend for coloring lip balms? My daughter makes slimes and she uses pigments but wasn't sure on it considering it's used for handling, wanted something natural like a plant base color.

Use less honey. I haven't had a problem with good local honey. Try putting it in sooner not at the end. Yes you need more bees wax in warmer months. I wouldn't worry about a shelf life with bees wax and honey but that's just my opinion

@dwightlady8 жыл бұрын
All InOne If you're using raw shea butter maybe you should melt it separately and strain it through a coffee filter or a disposable tea bag. Sometimes there can be small trace amounts of grit or debris in the raw shea butter. I use raw shea butter to make my own body butter and I notice if I don't do this, sometimes at the end of a batch I'll encounter a little bit of grit.
