@@TDM1165 - you could have written that for me! Exactly my situation as well. I had a HUGE crush on a boy who was 1 year younger than me at school and it happened just before I left school and left home to start my working career in an engineering environment (you can't get more of a homophobic situation than working with engineers). That first 3 months that I was away from home and the school (late 1969) was so torturous knowing that I would never set eyes on him ever again. Talk about love hurts .... well that's an understatement to say the least. It took many years to get over him! If I'm honest, the memories came flooding back when viewing the latest 2nd season of 'Young Royals' recently with the love situation between the two main protagonists. I can really relate to the pain that Wilhelm goes through with his love for Simon. Slightly different situation there of course, but the feelings are the same. My case was even worse, because there was zero reciprocation of love between myself and my school love interest. That's why shows like 'Heartstopper' and 'Young Royals' are SO important to be made these days with the hope that situations like mine will be less likely to happen for future generations.

55 yo bisexual Gramma here (*see my comment). I'm embarrassed how many times I've watched "Heartstopper" and I'm known in my family for repeated viewings and readings. I think it's partly because it's such a short series, not even 4 hours I think, and I want more time with these characters.

The proof that Joe and Kit are both exceptional people is that now, 6 months later, they're still patiently enduring interviews where many of the questions are unoriginal fangirling. (Oooh, what was the casting process like? zzzzzzz.) Heartstopper has dozens of priceless moments, each of which could potentially birth a spirited discussion -- or at least make the actors say 'wow, that's a really good question'. Yet hardly any interviewers bother making that effort.

Yep i thought the same most of fans know all about they're very patient even it's part of their job i'm surprised they accepted this interview while filming there some interviews and interwievers much more interesting with right and smart questions they kindly answered i'm very impressed seeing how humble kit is he's in the industry since TEN YEARS but did'nt emphazied it in front of Joe who only debuted since like 18 months first job acting
@mattwalker7862 жыл бұрын
I mean this is kind of a different interview type. They're not promoting the show, they're talking to Gold Derby because they have an awards audience and Joe/Kit wanted Emmy nominations. They were asked about the casting, Alice's writing, and both of their performances - those were the areas Netflix submitted Heartstopper for the Emmys, and it was probably made clear that's what they wanted to promote. This is an interview for older Emmy voters that don't know who tf these people are and haven't been watching every Buzzfeed/Netflix PR video that was put out earlier in the year - ya know?
@mark99k2 жыл бұрын
@@mattwalker786 That's hard to accept. Questions like "were there a lot of callbacks" or "what are some meaningful fan reactions" or "what inspired you to become actors" hardly seem pivotal for Emmy consideration. Awards are supposed to recognize the product, not the buzz.

I absolutely love Heartstopper!! I recently came out as bisexual this year on the 1st day of pride month thanks to heartstopper but especially Kit Connors character Nick Nelson. He gave me the courage to come out after hiding who I really am since middle school. Thank you Kit for portraying such a beautiful, strong, inspiring and life changing character💙 I could not have gotten the courage without you and now I have never been so comfortable in my skin and I finally feel free and confident and I can finally say I am not afraid to be the real me!! I cannot be more grateful!! I would absolutely love to meet the heartstopper cast one day and tell them how much I appreciate everything they are doing for the LGBTQIA+ community and how they have changed not just my life but so many peoples lives!! I love the fact that the show has become my safe space and a huge part of my life. I can’t wait for seasons 2+3 and hopefully 4+ as well 💙💛

I do wish people would stop asking them about their audition process. They’ve answered the question at least 100 times since they started doing Promo for the show. I hope when they do promos for season two, that the interviewers ask more original questions, and not the same ones, over and over again. Hell, I could tell you both of their addition processes, there’s just way more interesting questions to ask that haven’t been asked yet. But you gotta give credit to them, they never look bored, and are always gracious.
@UliFandoms2 жыл бұрын
Oh god. Thanks for meantioning that. I totally agree. The questions weren't really special or new - but as always Kit's and Joe's answers were open and full of deep thoughts. And both their demeanour and interactions (which we sadly got to see so less) were adorable as always.. 🧡
@mark99k2 жыл бұрын
Fully agree. I haven't seen many cast interviews for other shows, so I can't gauge whether it's the norm, but it's really annoying when interviewers put so little effort into their questions, offering only pablum. In this clip and many others, it almost feels like the interviewer hasn't watched the show. What other explanation could there be?

Gender is of no importance to me. Boy, girl,... I just fall in love with a person. Thank you Kit for eliminating all those questions like 'am I too gay for being straight? OR am I too straight for being gay?' . Love is just love... Right? I wish you all the love you deserve and thank you for being as brave as you were. xxx

More people need to hear this esp those in the Fandom who have this inaccurate image of him as cocky dude!! yes he's started acting when he's kid and independent, but it's clear Kit has a lot of insecurities! Remember he's just turned 18 he's just like any 18 yo he have insecurities struggles with may thing , still figuring himself, what he like & what he want to be in the future etc ! Also he's clearly perfectionist and overthinker & have a lot of thoughts and insecurities that many still don't know about ! Anyway yall should just be kinder and Treat them all with Respect and Stop making up lies and false bs about them and create false image, just let them be they still so young figuring life and themselves

I was such a dork and that age and that is speaking as someone who had a baby at 20. No regrets, by the way. I love my kids and their Dad and we've had a very blessed 35+ years together. It's slightly bittersweet for me in that my queer identity as a bisexual has been essentially erased for me but the people who matter know and have always known, more or less. Recently one of the younger fans of this series called my old, in jest of course, but yeah, 30 years ago we did not have shows really explicitly focused on LGBTQ²IP²SNA²+ characters. Round 2000, there was Queer As Folk UK and a US version. Addressing mainly an adult audience, I didn't really felt that comfortable with the storytelling. Anyway, I'm happy, we all get this good little story about young people and how they handle their identities... It's just such a huge and welcomed progress! ❤️👍

as an Elder in the LGBTQ+ community and someone who has never been outwardly gay, I sometimes wonder if I have done anything toward the notion that ALL people deserve to love and be loved..... Going back over my life, I can proudly say, "yes I have", I have promoted freedom for all people and in such have furthered our community to help to enjoy the richness of our community being able to have a TV series like this. Every time one of our community fight for equality, stand proud as ourselves, express our desire to either 'come-out or not', we chip one more piece off that block of hatred, bigotry and intolerance. As both Kit and Joe have shown us...there is still a battle out there for the day when everyone has a right to love and be loved without fear of attack......A day when a young fella can really go up to a bloke he's interested in and say..."I like you", without being beaten, scorned or abused....however it is up to stories like this, the other LGBTQ+ stories out there and every single member of the LGBTQ+ community to simply live their lives with the belief that we all have the right to love and be loved.....

I'm not queer either, and I sort of feel the same (also, I'm 50 years old, so I guess it's not really targeted at me) but I'm also disabled so I am part of a different minority group so I feel like there are some elements of it that I can really relate to in terms of people maybe seeing me as being different and not fitting in. Just having a difficult time finding my own identity and figuring out where I belong because of how disabled people in general are perceived in society. And also, I think anything that gives you a better understanding of other people is always a good thing - and Heartstopper does that, right? So I guess it's OK for us to be fans because understanding these issues makes us better human beings, maybe...? And becoming a better person is never a bad thing, right...?
