Kit Lens vs Prime Lens: Which One To Use and When?

Confused between a kit lens (zoom lens) and a prime lens? In this video, we show you the differences between a kit lens and prime lens and how you can take wide angle shots with a kit zoom lens and shallow depth of field shots from the prime lens. You should also get a clear idea of when you should use a kit lens or a prime lens.
We are demonstrating this video using the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. The cameras we are using are the Canon EOS 70D and the Canon EOS 750D.

Muhammad Kamran ....prime lenses have fixed focal length, 30mm, 50mm etc. what you want is a telephoto lens. if u use a kit lens 18-55mm, you can go for 55-300 mm telephoto. that way u can cover the entire range 18-300mm. if you want a single lens...go for Tamron 16-300, single lens, works well for all purposes.

What lens should I get 35mm or 50mm for a crop sensor DSLR Nikon d5300 .. (as 35 mm would be closest to 50mm on a crop sensor ) I want a versatile lens for Street photography , portrait and also for shooting videos for youtube

If you want to use it for street and expect it to be versatile I would get the 35mm because with the 50mm you will notice very often that you are too near. You can also use the 35mm for portrait just by going closer to your subject. If you put the 50mm on your crop sensor DSLR I think you will only use it for portrait and maybe for some close up shots. Also for shooting videos you will need a lens that has a larger angle than the 50mm. So for versatility the 35mm is the better choice.
