Dave, do you still carry 3 rat traps in your pack? I remember seeing them in one of the first videos I saw of yours, if I remember correctly it was about the time you were showing the slingbow pretty heavily. It seems like a grand idea to carry at least 3 of them beings they are light weight and produce small game readily. If you do still carry them, then do you carry a bait for them as well? thx, good stuff

Thanks Dave. As usual you cover the needs in a way that few with outdoor experience can argue with. I've been playing recently with the Kelly Kettles and though they could be seen to break the rule of multifunctional, they can also be viewed as a container, stove and cooking pot. they do not offer the capability to make char cloth but can be used to char natural materials like punk.

Great video!!! I agree with everything he mentioned to pack. except I always add needles and thread. I find them important because eventually you will need to repair either your pack , shoes or clothes which are vital in the field and it ways next to nothing

The assault pack is awesome! I have had one for a good while now. The two straps on top are for attaching it to the large ruck. But I have found other uses for those. On the back of my wheelchair I have a loop of cordage on each side. I run those straps through the cordage to hang the pack off my chair. I also hang grocery bags off them if my pack is full. I have had my assault pack for years now. It's a fantastic pack. Mine has some holes and fraying. But it's still going strong. I love the versatility of the MOLLE. The MOLLE sustainment pouches fit on the sizes nicely. I am tempted to get another one to build into a bugout bag. I have an ILBE pack. But given my current disability issues I need to keep the weight down if I have to walk. With a big pack it's easy to over pack it.

I use an economy grade shower curtain for a moisture barrio. Cost was 5 bucks, nearly puncture proof, weighs next to nothing and folds up to about 9"x12" under 1/2" thick. Grommets on one end only, of course, but it can be used as a rain cover with a little ingenuity as well.

Great video Mr. Canterbury, what would you suggest for sleeping type of stuff like sleeping bags for a climate in the northeast USA like New York, Vermont, North Pennsylvania and even southeast Canada like Ontario/Quebec areas that can get from around 80 degrees F* in summer to around ~20 below 0F* on average, I’ve got a few different packs that cover several types of things; such as 1 main “Survival” Pack which covers all types of survival, 1 Minuteman/Militia Kit, 1 Scout type of kit. The latter two are still a work in progress. I also use a single shot 12 gauge for a “woods walk/survival” gun

Our local surplus has the assault pack for $20. I bought one to attach to my full-size MOLLE as a separate hunting pack. It's good as a standalone as well. It's a great durable little pack for the price--

Hey just wanted say great video on sleep out in bush but to the guys and ladies that are just getting into bushcraft you might want to spend couple nights outside in the backyard to find a sleep system that works for you cause you will be surprised how much your body is use to pillows and beds just a heads up

i love my pack. i watched one of your old videos and a newer one, and saw that the swiss military rucksack was a steal at amazon for less than $30, and that thing really is BOMBPROOF. not to mention it has a nice traditional look with the leather straps and belt buckles. now i just need a better wool blanket, cuz the u.s. army blankets aren't very warm at all. i want the duluth kephart bedroll, but i'm afraid if i want that, i'm going to have to make it, and i can't sew worth a crap.

Don't know how to send PM on KZbin anymore (it changed on me, now I can't get the screen) so I'd like to share some ideas with you: One is the spetsnaz shovel (put flathead self-boring screws in the handle will let you attach a longer handle easily with knife or flat twig). Wrap tarp around blanket to waterproof. Fubar tool.

I consider my hammock my warm weather sleep system because of the convection loss underneath (I do my skivvies in a fleece sleeping bag liner in mid 50's). You mentioned using the hammock for colder camping (I've done down to 0F) when talking about the Snugpak pad....do you only consider the hammock for mid temp ranges?

Hey Dave do you remember some time ago you did a review for a transportable Solar Panel setup that could charge some of your devices? I haven't seen anything else on that, and I wanted to ask for your opinion on whether or not attaching it to the outside of your bag as a means of keeping crucial electronic devices charged with you would be worth it. Hope I'm not too late for a response on this one. I'm more partial to the 20 gauge for the "all around" shooter and because the 12's and 16's can put kids and women on their butts. Does the 20 not work for the adaptations you know of? Can it work as a muzzle loader?

Great vid brother! I would suggest anyone on a tight budget to check out your "Discount Bushcraft Kit" series. I too would like a Duluth pack someday, but I went with a Swiss rubberized mountain ruck for $30 and it's dang near bombproof. There's a big misconception that you have to spend big $ on kit in order to hit the woods. Not so, you can buy surplus on the cheap, then save for the good stuff that you'll only need to buy once. Example: PLSK1, I'm confident I will never have to buy another.
