I'm watching with my fiancee Louise, who is the one who packaged this up, operates the machines (which are huge) and quality checks everything shown. Needless to say, she is rather happy at your positive comments! I believe she was filmed for your upcoming video of the factory in Newhaven, East Sussex. Looking forward to seeing it! What people may not appreciate, is how much effort goes into making sure these models are good quality. Everything is manually filled to remove flash and defects, individually inspected, etc. Great to see the effort paying off!

I bought the original 1/24 Mk.l 'Super Kit' when it was first issued back in 1971 and I've got another one to make, plus the 1/24 Mk.V - this one completes the set ! Not to mention the Hurricane, Mosquito, Typhoon and Mustang, plus the Harrier and Sea Harrier and the 1930s 'Brooklands Bentley' - I love Airfix 1/24 kits ! Just hoping for 1/24 Phantom F4J and Buccaneer before I depart this world......... But as for this release, only one word seems appropriate AWESOME !

Great looking kit, very interesting to get the back story on production too. Ah yes the original MK 1 'Super Kit' has a special place in my youth... I also bought it new in 1971, having saved up cash earned washing up in a motorway caff near Ashford Kent. I still can remember he thrill of finally opening the box 51 years later!

It looks great and it was an interesting review, BUT I don’t understand how anyone could call it “kit of the year” before building it. We’ve all seen a few models before that appear to be great in the box, but when the work commences things aren’t quite so good - either due to a poor fit of some parts, or some inaccuracy. When it’s been built, the parts go together almost perfectly, and it scales and details out spot on, then it might be candidate for kit of the year.

Beautiful kit. Reminds me of the Airfix Supermarine Spitfire I got for Christmas back in 1988. It was huge scale.. Even had a detailed engine or alternative motor to run the propellor. Batteries were in the base of the stand. The engine had its own stand to display separately. I painted it, displayed it, and my niece's and nephews wouldn't leave it alone every time they called to the house they'd mess about with it, however many times you told them not to. One day I found it wrecked on the floor of our front room.. Yet none of them had touched it. I was absolutely fuming. The room was locked after that.. Every time they called out 😁.. I've never seen another one. I'd buy it in a flash. Great video as always.

In years gone by I had the pleasure to curate several Rolls Royce V12 aero engines from the Kestrel through to the mighty 35 litre Griffon. The answer to your question is the Rolls Royce name was always stamped into the rocker covers and picked out in red. The individual engine details and firing order appeared on a brass plate affixed by rivets to the starboard side of the block and all parts were allocated their own stamped part numbers and location

I did ICM's 1:48 Spitfire IX in the USAF scheme [fantastic kit, by the way] in a maintenance diorama [option for displaying the engine, and it's lovely for such a reasonably-priced 1:48 kit]. I technically COULD squeeze in another diorama 4x the footprint on my deeper shelf...but I am still not in a position to airbrush yet. Hand-painting/spray cans have served me well so far up to 1:35 tanks and 1:25 cars...wondering could I do a 1:24 'plane justice using my non-airbrush skills? Something to ponder. Looks like Airfix has designed it to have a MkVIII version produced in the future. The tail section of the fuselage where the tailwheel is mounted is made as a separate piece allowing for a different section for the retractable tailwheel of the MkVIII. At least that's what came to mind when I saw the fuselage halves. Plus it has the pointed rudder of the MkVIII included as well. I can see the aftermarket coming up with accessories, including vinyl tyres like in the original 1/24 scale MkI Spitfire from the 1970s.

I had no idea that Airfix manufactured in the UK! Is it out of the question to expect Hornby Loco’s & rolling stock to be made in the UK, given that injection moulding is not as labour intensive as component assembly. Secondly why did a more pronounced bulge in the canopy leave behind a seam line?

No need to shout! I must be one of the 10% then happy to see this kit! Not everyone builds Luftwaffe stuff. However, I'm happy to build either, but I thought Airfix said they wouldn't re-visit their earlier Superkits. Shame, because I'd love a Bf 109E to this standard. Maybe then, they would consider a Bf 109F? Not a variant that's been covered by anyone in 1/24 yet. Me 262? Wonder how popular that would be? Personally, I really hope they bring us a 1/24 P-51B at some stage. I'd be all over that. Still, we live in wonderful modelling times. I still pinch myself every time I look at the Trumpeter Ju 87A in my stash. I never, ever would have put money on a 1/24 Anton! Happy days!

The kit is leaps and bounds better than their previous 1/24 Typhoon and Hellcat, so they are to be applauded for that. Like many Brits I have a nostalgic soft spot for Airfix, but I also recognise that most of the stuff they've churned out in the past 20 years has been pretty laughable when compared to Tamiya and Eduard in 1/48, and Eduard and Armahobby in 1/72. I still think this kit does not have the surface detail finesse of Tamiya's 1/32 uber kits, including their Spitfire IX. It is, however, very reasonably priced. As to your review, lots of good close ups of the plastic, but you seem very easily pleased; I can only assume you are not familiar with Tamiya's 1/32 and 1/48 offerings? No mention of the split underside cowling, which seems a real "f*ck you'" to modellers no?
@MOS6510Models Жыл бұрын
can i ask airfix about the cowling

I think modelers will judge the tamiya kit.. the cowling looks ok
@TheLaughingBrexiteer Жыл бұрын
@@MOS6510Models I'm not sure that "looks ok" really cuts it though - being moulded in two pieces when it should be one is asking for a large ghost seam in a most prominent area of the kit. If you do get a chance to speak to Airfix, I'd be interested in what they say.
@TheLaughingBrexiteer Жыл бұрын
@@MOS6510Models hey so I did some research on the split in the lower engine cowling, which you may want to highlight to your viewers as a positive / point of clarification? So having consulted Monforton "Spitfire IX and XVI Engineered", the main cowling is indeed two pieces, but the intake should not be split down the middle I believe; basically be careful which seam you fill. Hope this info is of use.

how can an AIRFIX be a model of the year lol !!?
@gokhanersan8561 Жыл бұрын
Airfix has molded most sub-components flat-Eduard style. To sell this kit to a large number of people, they should’ve invested on slide molding to create the truss structures in 3D. Tamiya’s F35 does exactly that. This is a missed opportunity for Airfix - to bring modeling to the masses. Instead, we are looking at a kit that few will attempt, and experts will succeed in finishing.

Moulded everything flat?
@gokhanersan8561 Жыл бұрын
@@brutusminimus2612 Apart from the body parts; components are broken down to multiple low relief moldings-Eduard style. Compare this approach to Tamiya’s recent F35 where the manufacturer has done the work for the modeler by molding many crucial components in 3D. The primary selling point of this spitfire is the exposed engine. It has 3-4 primary components in 4-5 colors-that Airfix instructs the modeler to glue together from dozens of parts. That places this model out of reach for the majority of modelers-buildability-wise. I truly wanted to get this kit for Christmas.

@@brutusminimus2612 I don’t have many kits under my belt, but have been keenly following the developments in kit manufacturing. On the other hand, I am rooting for Airfix and Hornby to do well. I hope this kit sells well, so they can keep upping their game.
