Its cool how building a spaceship from a single piece of art gives you the freedom to decide what the parts you can't see look like

Adam Savage would be proud of your work if he saw it. Keeping the old spirit of Industrial Light & Magic alive.

A kit bashing masterclass yet again. You sir are at the top of your game and it's a shame physical model making in film is on the decline as you'd be in demand for sure. 👍

Beautiful work! I've just begun dipping a toe into "scratching and kitbashing". It really gives you some freedom of creativity, and freedom from sometimes really crummy commercial model kit designs (I hate it when I have to putty things too much! )

I like to think I'm slowly developing a personal style when it comes to models! It's hard to say what exactly it is, but projects like this one definitely help me along towards that goal.

I love watching scratchbuild videos like this, and your channel is at the top of my list. I have a truck I use to help manage sanding dust: glycerin. You can find it on the shelf in pharmacies. I put a few drops on my sandpaper or sanding stick, and the dust gets caught in the liquid rather than scattering everywhere.
@Sublight_Drive9 ай бұрын
Oooh interesting I’ll have to try that. I sometimes use water but I just end up creating a slightly different kind of mess rather than an easier to clean mess.
@velociengineersworkshop82009 ай бұрын
Yeah, I started with water but it evaporates too quickly to be helpful.

Y'ever wondered why no company manufactures boxes of greeblies? Like, why doesn't Airfix or Revelllll or whatever just make a box with, like, ten sprues of misc vents, pipes, fittings, boxes, controls, radar dishes, round things, square things flat things...
@icycoatl31859 ай бұрын
I’d buy it.
@Sublight_Drive9 ай бұрын
I know there's tons of files that are basically just that on Thingiverse. I suspect the real reason bigger companies haven't gotten in on it is it's just too niche of a market. The closest I've ever found are like, detail packs for model railroads that have little drill presses or fire hydrants or stairs and such.
@earlware43229 ай бұрын
@@Sublight_DriveI remember when I discovered engine and accessory packs from Revell for their 1/24 auto kits. I had to buy two of everything. 😁 Way cheaper than buying whole kits just for a new engine.

Adam Savage has a video on his youtube channel showing his homemade vacuforming machine. It's really easy and it really doesn't have to be very big at all.

This is nice. Though I wonder what the original artist thinks of this and if there's a means to give that artist a model.

Do you own a hot wire cutter? If not, you should!
@Sublight_Drive9 ай бұрын
Hot wire cutters are neat, but I don't know what I'd use one for. They blast through foam like no one's business, but I suspect they'd just mangle styrene sheeting.

Thank you for posting your videos. I would like to ask what metal drafting square you use when cutting the styrene. Also what software do you use for laying out the shapes to cut. I look forward to your future videos as I begin my scratch and kit bashing
@Sublight_Drive8 ай бұрын
Tbh I don’t remember the brand of the drafting square, it’s just a cheap one I picked up at the craft store where I live. I could probably stand to get a new one, it’s aluminum so it doesn’t stand up well to the harder metals of a hobby blade or a scribe. All image editing I do with the Affinity suite of applications. Good luck on starting your kitbashing adventures!
@salc95938 ай бұрын
Thank you for the name of the software you use. I'm enjoying you past videos as well I've found the very informative... Thanks again 🙂
