Yet more class from one of the tidiest woodworkers on KZbin. The thing I love about vids like this is that it makes me think about practical usages of the jigs and machines you designed. I need that box joint jig in my life. And a pantorouter. And a wooden bandsaw.

You are one bad dude, Matt. You are always thinking outside the "Box". The UHMW tape is some good stuff, saves space in a lot of applications, I enjoy all of your videos.

The best solution to blind cabinets so far. I also like that your solution to the hinge really still maximizes the full depth of the cabinet. Genius!

You know that as I get older I have found that I do not like cabinets at all! I have moved to hanging my pots so that I can easily see where and what I have to use. That way I do not have to ask my 6 year old to come over and get a pot out of the back of the cabinet for me, even with a sliding shelf. I just can not bend down there since I no longer have disks in my lower back and bars in my neck. Great Idea for the young and able though.

ChileExpatFamily What about insects, like flies, just lounging on them all day? And dust? There's a reason people started using cabinets, you know? :) I've seen quite a few of these really shallow, wall-mounted kitchen cabinets in England. I don't know what they call them, but they are these huge, flat cabinets (about 2 x 2 m - but only maybe 20-25 cm deep). The top part of the inside has hooks for hanging pots and whatnot. And then under that area there's just small shelves running the full width of the cabinet - sometimes with little drawers built in between the shelves - for all your bowls and jars, etc.. And I love the doors on them. The left (or right) one is coupled with the middle one, so that when you open it it is hinged on the middle door. BUT - when you then open the middle one, something magical happens: It folds neatly onto the left one - goes "click" - amd then they are both one door hinged on the far left side (where you usually open the left door). I have no idea how this works, but it's really lovely to operate. When you then close the door again it goes "click" and the middle door pops off from the left one, and now the left one is again hinged to the middle door. Drives me crazy thinking about how to do it.. lol Anyway, sorry you had to be subject to this rant on cabinets.. :)

guggi uggi That is ok! We have very few bugs where I live here in Chile. Cabinets are great, but I no longer can feel my legs and when I bed down it causes me to have real problems. So for me I like hanging them from the ceiling from a pot rack. Kind of like in a commercial or restaurant kitchen. It is just what works for me is all I am saying.
@guggiuggi368710 жыл бұрын
ChileExpatFamily Sorry, all I got was something about "very few bugs"... Please excuse me, I have to pack up and move to Chile... lol :P Just kidding.. And I wasn't saying you're weird for not using cabinets, or anything like that... :P I hate them too. I only use two pans and three pots though, so they always just sit on the stove, and I move them when I need to. But crawling through cabinets trying to reach a bowl or something suuuucks (I have a busted neck and back from a bus crash). Which is what got me thinking about those flat cabinets, because with them everything is right there in front of you since they hang at eye-level. But with the benefit of having doors to protect stuff inside them. But those "magic" doors are really needed to make it practical, so I won't be upgrading from the chaos-cabinets I have now any time soon.. :P

That's a really great idea. I got one of those cabinets in my kitchen but we used a different method of getting back there. We got 2 baskets inside that you can turn out kinda like half a lazy susan that revolves outwards and you can pull each of the baskets out separately along a rail kinda like a dishwasher rack. It doesnt really utilize all the space in the cabinet quite like yours does though.

This problem is why I always build kitchens with lazy susans in the corner rather than blind cabinets like this one. This is a great solution. I had a similar arrangement with a single pullout in some bathroom cabinets and made the exact same mistake with the hinge clearance!
