Kitchen Cupboard Doors and Drawers - Van Build Series - Episode 20

In this video I begin by carpeting the 'B' pillars with some 4-way stretch carpet to tidy up the rough metal work. After that, I work on making the kitchen shaker style cupboard doors and drawers. This is a quick and easy DIY method anybody can do with some basic hand tools. The kitchen base units are made from an old wardrobe, the worktop is from an old dining room table and of course, all the pine used for making the doors/ drawers is up-cycled from an old futon.

Its looking good, pick smooth low profile handles for the doors and drawers so you don't catch on them when moving around, great workmanship as usual👍

It's coming along now buddy,I think I'm gonna invest in one of those jointing jigs as it looks very strong & easy to use,as for the strip of wood it'd look good painted either in colour or maybe an opposite colour say off white to give it a 3D look to highlight it, certainly looking good & strong units that aren't going to creek & move about when traveling.well done mate I'm very impressed ❤️👍

Thanks bud 😊 the pocket hole jigs are fantastic! Never used them before doing this build but I use it all the time now. I will add a link to my Amazon storefront to the one I used as it’s a pretty good kit and has lasted well so far. Some aren’t built very well and break after only a few uses. Thanks for your recommendation about the colour, I like the idea of off white 👍🏼😊

nice job ....excellent attention to detail and some very useful tips. Green !........ that strip has gotta be green otherwise you have 3x different colours in the units . That wood strip right in the middle breaks up the visual continuity of the green along the base and it doesn't tie in or match the worktop colour

Great content..looks the business..thanks... rust-oleum do a sealer lacquer for chalk paint .. I've used and its a good water resistant sealer.. I was the same didn't want to go down wax route..

You ust have half a timber yard in the back of that thing. I would never use solid timber in a van build, even though almost 100% of van builds do! These are nearly always the one's you see for sale. They are just too damn heavy. This costs dearly in fuel consumption and is hard on your nerves when you don't have the power or acceleration you think you should have when you need it most. I use original lining where I can get it and stick to super light materials or Corefulte for coverings (Coreflute is a ribbed hollow plastic). I don't use solid doors anywhere, but instead use framed doors and have the centres filled with something like rattan or Coreflute. I try and not to use anything thicker than 12mm(1/2") ply or timber strips for the doors. I've built vans from furniture put out on the street for collection and circuled the streets on the days before council cleanup. I picked up hinges, Melamine furniture boards, plywood, conduit, and storm water PVC for under-body water tanks and a lot of bits that I repurposed for the build. Some people build their vans like they are building a house. You can see which trade their in by what and how they install things. Try not to add more than about 200kgs (400lbs) to the empty weight in furniture in a Transit, as it's just a waste of time, space and resources.

What type of wood do you use to create the drawer walls and the cupboard panels? And where do you get it from? My closest is b and q and the only thing similar is strip wood which is expensive

Thank you! It’s all made from reclaimed wood, old wardrobe furniture board. Old futon slats mainly. Sourced from the Facebook marketplace 👍🏼
