It is so weird to me that builders will waste so much space. This just proves that there was absolutely no reason for that original pantry to be so completely unusable. Excellent job. It looks fantastic.

People keep more food on hand and use a lot more appliances now then when the house was built. Probably no need for a large pantry like people use nowadays. IMO.

When I was in middle school and high school they taught classes like these as electives, drafting/design, auto mechanics, carpentry, metal, baking, cooking, even sewing, now all of those useful skills for boys and girls are gone out of the schools replaced with classes that add many more homework hours, this is what we need more of in our schools

Its true. I went to school when all of these were offered plus Drivers Ed. So much emphasis on math, etc. but no practical use for it; 1-3% will go on to use that math. They'll teach computers and more computers as a way to the future...but the IT person is helpless without an electrician, a metalworker, and a carpenter and even cooking, to feed him/herself.

When my daughter was 6 yrs old we did a major DIY Reno and included a large Tupperware container in a wall cavity. It contained schools work, class photo, family photos, local news papers, junk mail catalogs,showing prices of food, appliances, furniture, cars etc This is a fun project for kids My cousin and her husband bought the house my dad built in 1950 that I grew up in. Dad aged about 90 got a phone call one day asking if he needed his chisel, it had been found in a wall cavity.

I had a brother who was so handy building things. You could show him a picture and by the end of the day he would have it built. He took an outdoor storage room that was connected to the house at the end of the kitchen and turned it into a walk in pantry when he was visiting us on vacation. It has been a real asset to me, especially during these uncertain time when you need more storage space. Thanks for showing this remodel, great improvement. Have a Blessed day and I did subscribe.

I’m secretly in love/awe with the green and yellow tile you covered over… but seeing your bathroom remodel before this, I grasp the idea it’s EVERYWHERE. That being said, and in that quantity, I’d imagine it’d either look gorgeous or would give everyone headaches; no in between.

I actually originally included an explanation in this video but ended up cutting it out as to not disturb the flow of the video. That space used to be a closet for the dining room. I show framing it in in my "living room remodel time-lapse" video. Thanks for checking out the video and for the question!

Who’s the dummies that didn’t utilize that space in the first place when building the house!?
@keithmuset6510
@keithmuset6510 3 жыл бұрын
Mfam I don’t think that space was there. He remodeled the whole living dining room. He even had to reframe around the brick you saw here. He even had to put up new supports. There is a speed video of it. It is plausible that the extra space wasn’t there. Having said that, I move furniture cross country and see lol different kind of build and designs, and I am convinced that the world is full of dummies, so you could be right.

Around 1980 we bought a house built by the original owner in the 1950s. Many things seemed weird, like a lack of counter space, handmade mahogany cabinets that were hardly deep enough to put a dinner plate into without the doors hitting it -- weird things that just didn't seem right. I believe it was because the builder was a MAN who had never cooked, baked or actually worked in a kitchen and didn't understand efficient movement and place for food prep by the cook. Things were arranged for him to come in from work and clean up in a special basement bathroom, but as for kitchen efficiency the planning fell far short. And by 1980 those mistakes were quite glaring.
