Crumbs the size of raisins, if they are still 'crumbs' at that size, were visible when looking down the slots of the toaster. Per your advice, crumbs interfering with the latch mechanism seemed a potential cause. I removed the crumb tray and violently shook the toaster in all directions, allowing our entire collection of dried bread parts to fall out. Toaster now works, and without me having to go to Lowes in search of a spanner driver. I want to thank you and your wife for this very helpful video.

I have the same toaster with this problem. I wish he went into more detail on how to remove the lever knobs since you can’t go forward until they are off. Today I was able to remove the lever knobs by using a paper clip with a 90 degree bend 1/16” long. Get it to lift the rear of the knob at the back while pulling it off the lever. As for screws, I took an old small screwdriver and with a tiny file I cut a slot in the middle of the blade. I got the toaster apart, and found the stiff wire that the lever pushes on to set the contacts was bent. I straightened it, and it broke off. I used a zip tie to hold a piece of a paper clip to make it work.

I have the same toaster. The left side would not stay down. It was not an electric problem for me. I had to adjust the angle of the piece of metal that comes down to clip with the electromagnet. It seems to have a small range for positioning such that the level engages and stays down. I think there is a tolerance issue in the overall design for left side.

Well...I ordered the h type spanner screwdrivers. Tried to take the cover off....but wasn’t willing to break off the slider knob so I left it on and just tried to inspect things while holding the cover up. . The rod seems to be in place. I couldn’t tell what the magnetic parts were. So I cleaned what j thought was them. Still works as before...about 50%’of the time it catches. This thing rattles like a murraca with crumbs so that’s got to be it. Gonna have to try again and find out what is definitely the magnet. This is a slightly differnt kitchenaid model than the one in the video. It’s the single version of the vintage looking one.

I bought a kitchenaid toaster that stops automatically when you're toasts are toasted. Unfortunately, mine keeps on toasting with the grill going up and down till the bread starts burning. Reached to the company several times but they never bothered responding. Their CS is inexistant. Think twice before succombing to the hype and buying their products. Cheers.
