I use regular Propylene Glycol to form a dispersion of THC into water, it's amphiphilic properties can really make it as good as an emulsifier in that regard

May I please ask for your process in doing this? I am curious about making extractions using food grade PG and water or pure alcohol. Just studying up on it now and everything helps! Thank you!
@sellelpoc7 ай бұрын
@@Jeff1Veron i just add PG to a jar of distillate and heat it on low until they come together then I give it a good shake. If you're using flowers add 10mL per gram of flower and heat it on low for 4 hours

Hi is the ratio of 1 percent from the total amount is for all recipe like mayonnaise?
@Modernist_Pantry3 жыл бұрын
1% is a starting ratio meant to be used as a guideline for experimentation. Every recipe will be different so the best ratio will vary depending on your recipe.

Thanks for the video! Do you know what is the average chain length for your alginate?

Nope, that doesn't come up in cooking

What is the difference between PGA and gum arabic especially in beverages? I am using gum arabic for beverages in order to incorporate essential oils and is very difficult to disperse, but can I use them interchangeably?
@Modernist_Pantry4 жыл бұрын
You'll need high shear to incorporate both so a simple whisk is not sufficient. Both are low viscosity cold soluble. Typically PGA is used in much smaller ratios compared to gum arabic.
@kostbill4 жыл бұрын
@@Modernist_Pantry thanks for that. Is there any difference in the mouthfeel? Is PGA more creamy or silky or smoother than gum arabic?
@Modernist_Pantry4 жыл бұрын
@@kostbill mouthfeel is very much determined by the specific formula and individual preference so there's no set answer to that question.

Great video, that Irish cream looks delicious! Propylene glycol is commonly used at a 50/50 ratio with distilled water in cigar humidors to stabilize the relative humidity and reduce the chance of mold growth in the humidor. Could I use PGA as a substitute in my humidor?
@Modernist_Pantry3 жыл бұрын
PGA is not the same as propylene glycol and can't be used interchangeably

Does PG have the same taste effect on alcohol that VG does?
@Modernist_Pantry2 жыл бұрын
Not that we know of since it's commonly used in beer, but we haven't tested the limits of usage to see how much it would take to affect the taste.

It is not

Another question: Alginates are usually not digestible by humans, but you list this one as being digestible. Is this right? It seems odd that an ester would suddenly make it bioavailable.
@Modernist_Pantry5 жыл бұрын
There is a difference between consumable and digestible, like fiber supplements. The way we use it in cooking is for its functional properties to enhance various cooking techniques and dishes. In the amounts that they are used in any given recipe and per serving is tiny and is not meant to add any dietary benefits.

Is it good for vegan ice cream?
@Modernist_Pantry5 жыл бұрын
We haven't tested it in vegan ice creams. While there may be some benefit there are better products for ice cream such as our Perfect Ice Cream and Tara Gum
