At 3:00 you see Fashion Annex....my grandmother used to work there, bless her soul. I was born in 75 right near downtown, and yeah, 71 is a little different, but man those feelings flooding back. It sucks you can never go back.

Nice photos from ‘71. I was 21 then and remember how in the rain the sparks would sometimes fly off of the cables as well the cables would sometimes come off the line and the driver would by bouncing them with experience on the outside rear of the bus get them back on.

I came to Kitchener at 21 from Windsor. The first time I got on trolley the bus would shake if electric cable lines loss contact so much I saw a woman slide down a seat and fall between two seats and got stuck. The trolley was absolutely cheap to use and on Sundays I would take it on King Street into Waterloo where I could eat as much as I want of fried chicken at Roy Roger's Restaurant for 99 cents.I remember seeing others from the two universities having eating contests.Starting with 6 pieces along with fries,milk shake etc I eventually ate 15 pieces just like others could do. Today in 2022 I look at transit LRT not on King Street East where it was positioned during old days just where people lived with numerous stops every block but on a different street with LRT stops 1/2 kilometre away making it so inconvenient for those living next to King Street as they took away buses as well from King.

I do remember that little tower cottage beside the railway, I'm sure it was part of it but I cannot remember exact location.was it on King and Victoria, or one block north towards Waterloo King? I sure would love some help on this!
@tassiebaz5 ай бұрын
Hi stevelauda5435, Thanks for watching and for your question. The time I took the photos was my only visit to Kitchener. Looking at the pictures (I think the one to which you refer is at 3:56), makes it look like the tower was on King where it crossed the railway at grade. I had a look on Google maps and everything has changed since the pictures were taken 54 years ago, so it's hard to match anything up with the pictures. Perhaps someone more familiar with the area can provide a more definitive answer. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😄

I don’t really remember the trolleys, but I do remember those green/beige Kitchener Transit busses that reeked of gasoline

Hi TheAnagnostis, Thanks for watching and for your comment. The trolleybuses lasted until 26 March 1973, so maybe before your time. Cheers, tassiebaz.

Silly that they junked the system during the Arab Oil Embargo. They got with the program of burning oil like there's tomorrow. Today 84% of Ontario power is generated by nuclear (60) and hydro (24).
@tassiebaz6 жыл бұрын
Hi trainluvr, Yes, it was pretty silly that many transit properties abandoned their electric operations when you would think that logic should dictate that they keep them. The tide is swinging the other way as I just read that Kitchener is building a light rail system. Regards, tassiebaz.
