Coconut Masala Fish Curry Recipe | Easy and Simple Fish Curry using Coconut | Grated Coconut fish curry recipe
This is an easy everyday Fish Curry with coconut and Malabar tamarind (Gambooge or Kudampuli). This fish curry is spicy, tangy, sour and bursting with flavor and it makes for a soul soothing weeknight dinner and can be served with any seafood you have at hand. It’s made to be served with ghee rice, steamed rice, idiyappam, appams and neer dosas and all the things that can soak up flavors from the fish curry. Which is why the gravy has the right amount of consistency, not so thin and watery. Please adjust the spice as per your taste. Enjoy this fish curry after 3 to 4 hours allowing the fish to soak up the flavorsome masala. Taste best the next day !!
So here’s the recipe from my kitchen to yours.

Ingredients :
600 gms Black Pomfret (Gutted and rinsed well)
Marination :
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Salt (or as per taste)
For the Masala Paste :
2 tbsp Coconut Oil
1 tsp Coriander Seeds
1 tsp Fennel Seeds
1 tsp Black Peppercorns
½ tsp Cumin Seeds (jeera)
2 medium (120 gms approx) Onion thinly sliced
7 to 8 Garlic (sliced)
1 inch Ginger (sliced)
75 gms approx. Grated Coconut
Few Curry Leaves
3 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
2 medium size (80 gms approx) Tomatoes roughly chopped
Water as required for grinding to a smooth paste
Other Ingredients :
3 tbsp Coconut Oilv
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
3 large cloves Garlic (crushed)
Few Curry Leaves
4 Green Chillies (slightly slitted)
3 to 4 pieces Gambooge or fish tamarind (Kudampulli or Malabar tamarind) You can get it in any Kerala stores all over India
200 ml approx. Water (use after rinsing the blender jar)
