Hey Louie, great video! I’ve been focused on collecting FaB because I loooove the art. Recently I grabbed the blitz decks and have been playing a game here and there. I don’t have anyone really familiar with the game to play with, but we are familiar with MTG… Id love to see a gameplay video that puts an emphasis on explaining plays in a way that helps newer players see and possibly understand the flow of a typical game. Most of the videos I’ve seen are scripted in a way that requires gameplay experience so it can be a bit confusing to understand some of the intricacies of the plays and abilities.

I like this but where I’m struggling right now as a new player is what to do when. It would be helpful to understand is what to consider on those first couple turns when you start from zero.
@yipyipyipi3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of tiny factors to consider on a card, but everything comes down to one issue: how does this action get me the win? If you block for 3 with a card that can do 6 damage, you're losing out on 3 damage. If that card cost 3 through, you would have needed at least one other card to play it. Which means it would have cost 2 cards and 3 health to play. Now maybe defending was good, if the other card you were going to pitch is a zero cost attack that deals more than 3 damage. If that card only deals 2 though, you have net lost 1 "point" towards victory. Every card should be weighed toward that scale. First, how does this card help me deal damage? If it doesn't, or doesn't well, then how can it help me prevent my own health loss? And finally, if it doesn't do either well, how can it assist me in playing other cards that further those goals. Remember: damaging your opponent is always better. That's how you win. Preventing damage does NOT win you the game. It just helps you not lose while you try to win.

If you need help learning when to defend, attack, or put something into Arsenal (these are the three actions you will almost always have the opportunity to do in any round) then try this: Get a friend amd let them know you want to play three games back-to-back. Let them know you want them to play normally, but you are going to try some weird strategies. Game 1: Never defend. Ever. Pretwnd you CAN'T defend. Don't do it. Just see what happens. This will help you understand the power of having a full hand each turn. Game 2: Defend EVERY turn. Every single turn. They play a 2 damage card without go again? Defend it. They play an 8 damage card? Defend at least some of it. They use a 1 damage weapon with go again? Defend whatever they follow up with. They play a card that does something special if it hits? Defend the whole thing. This will help you feel the drain of defending. You'll find yourself over/under defending a lot and start to see how that affects both you AND your opponent. Game 3: Ar-sen-al. Arsenal. Put a card in every time it's empty. Every single time. I don't care if it's the only card you could play, put it into Arsenal. You'll quickly learn how helpful it is to have that extra card every turn. You'll learn what cards really don't belong in Arsenal, and what cards were better than you expected. After that, go HOME. Have a meal. Think about the games. Sleep. That's important, let your mind process it all. Then, after you sleep, you can play again. I am confident you'll feel much more knowledgable on what to do when.

New player question: A friend picked up this blitz deck to learn how to play the game recently. He had merciful retribution out, and neither one of us were sure whether or not one of his attacks hitting and that card being sent to the discard triggers the one arcane damage ping. As a practical example, merciful retribution is out, the prism player attacks with an enigma chimera, The defending player doesn't block and the chain resolves. When the chain closes and enigma chimera gets discarded, does that trigger merciful retribution? Sorry if this is really poorly phrased or hard to follow, very new player, having a ton of fun with the game, but this interaction was the blind leading the blind between my friend and I lol

Can you block with instants like Ode to Wraith (aura)? Example I play a action attack and my opponent doesn't block with an action attack card or defense reaction, but blocks with Ode to Wraith without paying the 4 resources... I say no.

Question from a newbie. What do you do if you go against decks with lots of 6 power cards (Brute looks like they have lots of 6+ power cards)?
@zst0rme7003 жыл бұрын
If we are just talking about the precon list, you have a couple options. IMO, the best option being to play defensively and build Spectral Shield Tokens to attack with. They’ll block for you in a pinch, and can be used for wide attacks without Phantasm. The other option being that you play aggressively and maintain pressure to gauge when they need a recovery/setup turn and use the gloves to turn off Phantasm when you’re looking to go for a big play.

If an offensive player attacks for 1 damage and defensive player has 3 spectral shields, would those 3 shields get destroyed since all of those shields' effects will be triggered?
@v33dooo9 ай бұрын
nope only 1 would pop per damage and 2 remain. Ward however functions how you are thinking. So if something has ward 4 and you deal 1 damage the entire ward is gone

Just wanted to throw out there for newer players wondering why they are struggling to win with Prism... her deck out of the box seems to lose to the other three pretty regularly, Levia is an insanely poor matchup. Spectral shields also MUST destroy themselves to block damage which is... yikes. Dont let all this turn you off from Prism as a a card, shes great... but her srarter deck IS the weakest.
@MrEzuma3 жыл бұрын
Really good to hear as I love Prism but found her starter Deck very much an experience of 'so how does this win...'
@zst0rme7003 жыл бұрын
I would say out the box Levia is by far the weakest. Prism has versatility and can easily handle the Levia matchup if played well. I think the barrier for entry for most when playing Prism even in constructed is that she can go so many different routes it’s easy to try and do all the things while doing none of them well. This video was written to highlight those play line avenues and encourage people to test them out. I can say with the 2 weeks of testing I did for this series that I never had a difficult time with Levia when I focused on playing more defensively and swinging wide with the shields. It can be annoying having to protect the shields if you want to swing with them, but you have lots of 3 Defense blocks, and Levia doesn’t have Attack Reactions. In most instances, she died during the long game due to Blood Debt or loss of tempo. I recommend Levia to newer players as her precon is simple and fun to play where I recommend Prism to more experienced players interested in deckbuilding/theorycrafting. If someone is hyped to play either regardless of skill level, the best thing to do is just put time in and practice against lots of different people and builds.
@VVhirl3 жыл бұрын
@@zst0rme700 My playtesting with Prism found that what you call "variety" I call "unfocused". Levia started strong in my group but as of now Chane is the best with Boltyn on his heels. Both of them are great at dealing with Prism, since their last attacks usually can kill any of the spectra cards she plays, and if they dont block earlier, then the prism player eats all the dirt from the first few attacks or loses their next turn. That is of course, if she ever draws them which is not an every game occurrence by a long shot. Using the Iris is also unreasonably difficult, 3 mana to attack just isnt fast enough, and if you defended a lot you cant do anything else. You want to lean into her big hits with her spectra cards, and you can do so much damage, but you're usually not able to hit them twice for big damage. Her natural ability is decent but two mana can be prohibitive when attacking is so expensive and using cards to block puts you so far back. The phantasm cards have not really impressed me, many of them are 2 cost attacks and while they may deal a lot of damage the other decks are putting out just as much for much more reasonable rates and demanding a lot more pressure. The aura strat works better but you don't have enough auras on the board to make a meaningful turn happen not to mention needing the mana. Prism seems to want to lean on her defensive mechanics but making spectral shield tokens has always come at the cost of actually accomplishing something. The fact that the tokens HAVE to die to mitigate damage also causes a lot of issues against the other three decks because it's difficult not letting the flurry of blows from boltyn, or chanes attacks plus his arcane damage (you'll run out of ways to block it pretty fast), and Levia yes you CAN block but you skip your turn trying or she has dominate and you're sol... so how do you keep them alive to attack with when you only take nothing if your opponent whiffs. I dunno man, we got maybe 40 games in with her and she won... 6 of them I think? I want her to be good but usually making the aggressive play and eating an attack doesn't result in you getting a massive turn... sure christmas land turns happen but i've found the deck to be lacking.
@zst0rme7003 жыл бұрын
@@VVhirl are you still referring to the precon decks? Because that’s all this series is focused on. I put each hero against each other hero 10 times for a total of 120 games with various competitive players to identify strengths, weaknesses, and synergies. Out the gate, you have some valid criticisms towards the pre-con and how it functions, but the flexibility is only unfocused if you don’t go into each match with a game plan. Boltyn and Chane do not hit their wide combos consistently every game the same way Prism won’t setup consistently every game and Levia won’t consistently turn Blood Debt off. Overall, this series focuses on just getting people started. Prism requires a higher player skill cap out of all 4 precon decks and has an open field for multiple build options that do extremely well in both Blitz and CC.
