No, Rob. 1. Gon’s reckless, emotional ass would’ve gotten everyone killed by Pitou in that particular situation. 2. Pitou woulda made quick work of Gon. She was born with max potential and her nen abilities are already unlocked. Gon’s rock-paper punch would’ve inflicted zero damage on Pitou. 3. Killua absolutely did the right and smart thing. Sometimes you have to know when to pick your battles and fight another day. Throughout HXH you’ll notice a “checks and balances” theme in Gon and Killua’s friendship. Gon checks Killua whenever he becomes too logical or rational. Killua checks Gon whenever he becomes too emotional. Likewise, in this first encounter with Pitou, it was absolutely necessary for Killua to check and balance Gon’s emotions with his rationale for the sake of their survival. @Sanji Uchiha Pitou is not a dude in the manga. Pitou does use some antiquated male pronouns but female characters in anime use those all the time as a mean to characterize them. Those pronouns are there to make Pitou's gender ambiguous. In fact in the manga Pitou has a chest (a small one but depicted in certain angles). Pitou's gender is undefined or simply neither male or female because the author likes doing that. Since Pitou themselves never made their gender clear, you can frankly call them whatever you want, him her them, whatever.

Killua at that point in time was a coward (for some obvious reasons if you're up to date with the show). Which is later confirmed by Bisky. The way he assesses a confrontation is simple : he only fights opponents weaker or equally as strong or experienced as he is. Once they slightly above him or do shit he can't understand he bounces. Which is why even his nen ability (the coolest damn ability) is for him to make up for disatvantageous matchups

Pretty sure Gon wins later because his emotions of anger/sadness is what drives him to exchange all his nen for instant power. Saying emotions plays no part is so dumb. It's also emotions that prevent the phantom troop from killing Kurapika until they cleanse the boss. It's emotions that allow Pitou one last strike.

Emotions made Gon make a contract, it made him do the decision, it didn't make his Nen stronger or unlocked the ability to make contracts or anything silly like that. All the examples you bring up are people making decisions based on emotions, not emotions directly empowering nen. Residual Nen is the only time emotions make Nen stronger, and that is only after you die. If not, then why would the nen become stronger AFTER death? If the person had such strong emotions that the Nen remained after death, why is it always said that it is stronger AFTER the death? Because the emotion does nothing while alive. The best it can do is help a Nen user draw out more Nen just like you can draw out more strength while angry, but you can achieve the same meditating or what not.

It is different for Killua/Knucle or any other member, because they have special hatsu like decoy, paralyse, attrition which can counter their lack of aura reserve. Gon has none, and in aura potential, he is way too far behind. That is also one of the reason togashi did not gave Gon any real fight in this arc

He's underestimating the enemy, he's not paying attention to clear story cues ( gon/killua vs rammot, rammot vs pitou, gon/killua vs pitou), and frankly he's just being an ass to any character that doesn't seem to be His Fave (tm). Like,for whatever reason, he seems to especially have a real hate hard on for Killua, constantly underestimating him and looking for reasons to shit on him, and this is no different. There's a lot of people in the comments going "But Killua was being a coward, because [SPOILERS]!!!" and, like, yeah, they're not wrong, but also, Killua *didn't* make a wrong choice in getting out of there. And Rob refuses to outright acknowledge that.

The Rammot fight later on shows you super clearly that despite not being superior, Rammot keeps cleaning the floor with Killua because he think he is and the nail does its nasty work. But here, running was the natural option. Kite is tbe actual expert among these 3 and he outright told the two of them to run the fuck away. You can give all the explanations you want about how or why, but running away was thw right choice here, and Rob wouldn't admit that if the truth smacked him with a nail bat.

I think its also important to remember gon & killua personality, Killua always thinks first & doesn't make rash decisions when Gon always made pretty much crazy decisions without thinking. There was also a episode where gon literally told killua that his job is to check Gon 24/7 whenever something crazy happens. Overall I felt everything was foreshadowing to this moment, arc & much more to come.

Emotions are just a small part and gon seeing kite just lose an arm + he is wayyyy weaker before the upcoming "training phase" would never put gon in a situation like the one you metionend. On top of that pitou would've easily chopped killua and gon down before they can even blink in that situation. Who ever thinks gon is able to take on pitou at this point is straight up delusional and has a IQ below average.
