I haven't used this video yet but this is the exact kind of tutorial I have been trying to find for years, so thank you. You explain it very simple in little steps and that's easy for me to follow (I'm someone who knows zero about any digital program such as photoshop). Thank you so much. Up until now I have always worked by hand with the riso, meaning I would have to trace my image on a seperate paper in all the different colors I wanted which is a lot of work. But I'm exited to try this color separation in photoshop (I've tried to ask the people that worked with the riso machine at the place I print, but they don't understand what I mean, and say it can't be done to separate colors from one image.. pff!!)

Omg!!! Thank you! Please try also my color separations tutorial in Photoshop here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6OpomiBoc6DZpY This shows how to start an illustration in Photoshop. The CMYK tutorial is if you already have a colour illustration but need to separate the colours. So you can try it both ways to see which results you like better. :-) I really appreciate this comment!!

Thanks for this tutorial. I saw it a couple years ago, and looked for it again when I wanted to double-check how to convert a photo into a halftone file for Risograph. I will print only in black, but it is interesting how you do the color separations with different angles, shapes, etc. I'd like to try that sometime.

this is awesome and very helpful as I am hoping to start experimenting with riso printing... one problem i am having though when creating the bitmaps is that when i get to the rasterize layer step ( at about 14:00 in the video, and yes i am particularly interested in doing these halftone style prints!) , the rasterize tab is greyed out/not clickable... I've looked and looked and cannot figure out what is preventing this step aghhh help pleeease!!

Hmm please try this video at 3:32: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaDSfoNrrt94nK8 I did this more recently and i think i am more step-by-step here. Please let me know if it works for you...
@johnkough5 жыл бұрын
@@kitetsustation I just tried this and I have this same exact problem. Followed all the steps, I think, and "rasterize" is greyed out for all layers. Weird. (Update: now I find that, though I cannot do the rasterize step, I can still multiply one layer at a time, and if I multiply a given layer, the layer under it is seen in combo with the layer over it, as intended. So if I multiply the top two layers I see the top three layers combined. And the top layer color seems to dominate and modify the color or colors under it. [which is how it's supposed to go?]. The only thing I wonder about though is that I can only see an image built from maximum three colors, though my file has 4 color layers. The bottom, 4th color layer will not be seen. But anyway I think I was kind of able to make this work, and it's very cool. But the thing that differs from what you do in the video is that, as said, I cannot rasterize, and also, if I select more than one layer at a time, the entire blend mode menu greys out, so I can't multiply. Can only multiply one layer at a time.

@@johnkough i am not sure how i would be able to troubleshoot this if i can't recreate the issue in order to fix it.... do you have any suggestions?
@johnkough5 жыл бұрын
@@kitetsustation Thanks for the response. I was partly just putting this out there to compare notes/discoveries with the previous commenter or anyone else who had this issue, and also looping you in in case you had any thoughts. I get that you don't have enough info though. Not expecting a troubleshooting session. Maybe I'll message you to see if you want to check out the file, but I certainly don't expect that. Thanks for the video! As I say, I'm actually starting to get some exciting results (which would otherwise be way beyond me), but just had to do a couple of things differently at the end, for whatever reason.

Hi, I did this tutorial a while ago and it made a perfect riso preview. Now when I've come back to it I can't seem to make it work the same way and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. The colours keep coming out really dull and muddy instead of true to the original image. Do you have any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thanks!
@kitetsustation4 жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure without seeing the actual file but if I had to guess, I am wondering if you are copying the channel layer correctly? You must ensure in the Layers panel that only the original image is visible before going back to the Channels panel to grab c, m, y, or k layers...
