Around 3 minutes in, you stop cutting, put a mask on, and then continue. It makes me happy to see others take care of their health. You are a good example for your family and anyone who watches your videos. Thank you and happy flying (and building)!

Been watching this series. Found it in 2022. Army helicopter pilot drooling over where you're at in life. Definitely appreciate that you have taken building a kitfox and broken it down with this series. When my time in the army is up and I don't have to move garages every three years I want to purchase a kit and build one myself. Using an R1/APEX engine makes a lot of sense cost wise and they certainly are powerful. I'm hoping to get a job flying helicopters after the army, would love to pick your brain on your path to working in EMS. From what I understand, they want a lot of hours and I don't think I'll have much more than 500 when I'm done with the military.

100 votes for showing the work. I don’t even own a Kitfox but I enjoy watching the build process, especially done by an expert like you. Amazing how many tips you can pick up just watching how you go about it.

I think your a great teacher. The details of plane building is part of the beauty. “Man builds a thing that flies like a bird”. Your videos of step, result, some detail, problem solving, and flying of course I think is what sets you apart.

I love the time-lapse. It's so cool to have both the break down of the work and to see it happen. The attention to detail is awesome.

Really good ep. w useful explanations. Squirrel-speed mode works well for me as long as we can see what you're doing and know what it is we're looking for. It answers questions before we ask. Ex: you said you'd rivet and glue, which I didn't understand until I saw how you did it. This is the first time it's felt like building might be good fun in itself. Your "back to work" is always a grinner -- I threw one of those at M. Patey last time I saw him and got a good laugh back from him. Many thanks and best to you.

You can strengthen the trailing edge by cutting .25" O.D. aluminum tubing to fit between the ribs, inside the trailing edge and attaching it with structural adhesive. Doesn't take much adhesive and very little weight gain for an enormous strength gain. Great vids.

At 7:10 you are showing how you cut reliefs to smooth around a bracket. The reliefs are straight cuts in a panel with an abrupt end that is a stress riser that will promote cracking. You should drill a round hole in the end of it to inhibit cracking. When you fill it with superfill you won't see it anyway and it will be much less likely to crack later.

Anality is a good thing when making air machines........very nice work indeed. one suggestion on those fiberglass leading edges, maybe tensioning them slightly against the leading edge by using small ratchet straps around the rear spar will secure them for drilling....and gluing for that matter.

to shave off the bucked side of a rivet, and make it a double flush, countersink both sides, and then use a countersunk rivet, cut the shank a little long, and then squeeze it to fill the back side of the countersunk hole on bottom.. Use a microshaver to flush the head, or use a 90* angle grinder with a 220 grit sand disk to lightly sand the excess bucked head off, flush.

@@BowenAero Yes, he's gifted though he and his brother were both labeled as "special class" material when they were kids. Then again, I'm sure the same was said for aviation geniuses like Al Mooney and Guiseppe Bellanca 😉 And I doubt the owner of the Swallow whom Mooney - then in high school - told his aircraft was out of rig appreciated the young man's enthusiasm...until he got the airplane back to his shop and had it gone over by his people to discover the kid was right. His name was Alexander Eaglerock. And he hired the kid. But I digress. You have to appreciate aviation's "special class" whenever you encounter its members 😊

What is used for spares for material and size on these wings, Can't really be sure of what i'm seeing, It's been a while since I been flying, Curiously asking from ignorance this time Those flap's you put on, I noticed they are or slightly below the trailing edge with it's masses. Because they are thicker then the actual trailing wing there, I would think there would be some drag from this slowing the plane down, And would have thought those flap's would be aligned to run smoothly in line with the wing surfaces, inside the wing itself,
@BowenAero5 жыл бұрын
The Kitfox has a flapper design. The Flapperons sit below and behind the wing and they articulate like ailerons but also drop full length like flaps. The wing has two round aluminum spares and wooden ribs.

No such thing as being "anal" when it comes to building an *AIRCRAFT* really. The added value is helping people understand that even so-called quick build kits from reputable manufacturers have flaws. It's a tiny, low margin industry after all and you show how to overcome those inevitable glitches. Had to turn the sound down on the sped-up Dremel tool segments as I felt I was at the dentist, but it's no big deal. My volume knob is right on one side of the headphones 😉 And I just love the no-nonsense, no girlfriends, no wives, no watch me build my house dilatory content creeping into other aviation videos. Yeah, some folks love that reality TV stuff and its fine. Just not my thing, said the grumpy old guy 😂 🤣
