You're right 582's are great engines. BUT Put a Rotax Rick 670 on it! 90+hp, It'll kick the 912's ass! Amazing STOL performance on my KF-IV 1200. VW/Jibaru/Lycoming/Contenental/Subare/BMW/Rotec are all lead weights holding down your bird and stealing useful carrying weight. Rotax is king for light aircraft.

hey great test! was wondering how a VW powered 80 horse Kitfox might do in terms of climb?

Hey Hobit. How do you know we got off about the same. You can't even see over the dash!

Pat, I really do not think the VW with direct drive would stand a chance with either the above. With a re -drive i think it would help it more. The video shows how well Rotax works - show me a soob powered Kitfox that will beat these two ? I think it would be hard to find one.

never seen a rotax rick 670 in action ........ would like to see one though.

have you had any experience or know of anyone who powered a kitfox 4 with an 80 horse VW?

Not directly but i have seen a few guys online that have. I am pretty sure that is was not good till he used a reduction drive. you want power to weight and 4 stroke go 912.

a 912 in my opinion is a waste of money. Its all about power to weight ratio. That 670 two stroke from rotax rick will run circles around a 912 for a forth of the cost.
