2:05 Use the bypass coolant to run thru heater core in cabin. Could keep your toes warm. In event of thermostat failure, you still have flow thru a small radiator.
@tonyforrester95702 жыл бұрын
What you are pointing at around 1:11 is not the pump shaft, but the thermostat housing. The pump runs next to the crankshaft, driven by a through shaft. [Seen in beginning at 0:10, just above the exhaust outlet].

I took a heater core out of a car, mounted it in my cockpit, ran hose to and from it, and used it to heat my cabin in the winter. Cozy. I finally wore that 582 out. Way beyond TOB. I live in Alaska. I had a 912S. Total sissy in cold weather. I prefer the 582.

I prefer the 582 for winter flying too but I don't think the heater core is gonna help me without doors! ;-)

Looks good and thanks for sharing. Unusual to see a water cooled two stroke!
@mmatt5 жыл бұрын
Not as unusual as you may think. A lot of them are these days, in snowmobiles anyway. It definitely has it's pros and cons. I personally prefer air cooled engines on airplanes but beggars can't be choosers! :-) Thanks for the comment!
@davidmg19255 жыл бұрын
Mr.@@mmatti come from the world of horticulture and mowers and strimmers. i only know air cooled. my dad had an old evenruid out board that was two stroke water cooled. The water jacket made it quieter than most ....... As you say most of the out boards will be water cooled.

I'd seen an inspector showing problems with engines & he pointed out that having a safety wire holding the air filter on the carbs, going under / around the attachment hose clamps really helps keeping the filter & hose clamps from vibrating off & going through your shiny new prop
@mmatt5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I definitely recommend doing this. An air filter through a prop will definitely ruin your day!

Looking good! RPM on takeoff you want 6,800 some choose 6,500 but 6,800 is the correct one for 1 min. Cruise you will get 4700-5200rpm warm it up properly and no shock cooling. In Australia we see them go past 1,000 hrs with that set up!!! If you use RPM too low you won’t get your 65hp your take off won’t be near as good and you even might be burning more fuel at cruise if engine is too loaded at low RPM.
@mmatt6 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely going to the optimizing the prop pitch for climb. I don't like cruising faster than 65 MPH anyway. It's not like I bought this thing to go anywhere fast! :-)
@hongshi82516 жыл бұрын
Video highly appreciated. Check if the carbs boot is slanted up or down. Then check which way it's supposed to be by rotax. The other point is when you add power it should force the nose up not down. I think you should be able to get 17 degrees on the prop and still get full 6200 static. Dan Johnson has a bunch of videos on the 582. Man, you are gonna have a great new experience with the Beaver. Wish they still made new ones- greatest trainer ever- especially with a great CFI
@mmatt6 жыл бұрын
I think the directional manifolds are on the 503. The 582 manual made no mention of it and the carbs seem to be perfectly level as do the carb boots. Thanks for the other info as well. :-)

Not really. ULs are more like dirt bikes than cars. You don't really use them to go anywhere, they're just for going out and having some fun. I think the longest distance I've flown it in a day is about 100 miles or so. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, there are more on the way! :-)

where could you get the wings recovered?
@mrhook326 жыл бұрын
Looks great Matt!!! The only advise I could give you is that the 582 does need 6 lorde mounts rather that 4. We know this from experience. make a plate for the engine side of mount and put 2 center mounts. 582 has lots of torque and it will tear those mounts up. And get rid of the oil injection and mix your fuel.
@mmatt6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice. I too thought the 582 should use more mounts but the Chinook uses the same engine and only uses 4 mounts as well and it has fared very well over the past 20 years or so with no failures that I'm aware of. I should mention that this application uses Barry mounts, not Lord mounts which may make a difference as they are constructed differently. As for the oil injection, I'm convinced that on this engine, the injection system is completely reliable and more than adequate in terms of providing enough lubrication. However, I don't think a person can go wrong either way.
@hillbillyhobopowders62395 жыл бұрын
mmatt I am currently looking at a kitfox it has a 582 and I was really terrified about having an oil injection system however the person I am buying this from swears by the injection system and has flown his plane for years relying on the injection pump. He assures me it’s a very reliable system. This 75 year old man built the plane himself and has really educated me on the 2 stroke engine. Just the cost for rebuilding the engine has made me reconsider my thinking since the rebuild doesn’t hurt as bad as the 4 strokes. May I also compliment you on your tactfully written responses. You are a true gentleman in every aspect . I loved your video and only wish you resided here in North Carolina as I would surely pick your brain LOL. Thanks

This guy knows how to run in a two stroke. Plenty of extra oil for Break in especially in initial start for injector oil systems. Premix guaranteed lubrication and the added oil will keep the piston and rings cooler and well lubricated. I’d be inclined to run premix in there all the time as insurance against a seizure maybe at 100:1 after breakin. Might just save your engine should the oil injector fail.

Or delete the oil injection.

The break in procedure takes about an hour and then most mechanics recommend avoiding full throttle for another 5 hours just to let everything fully seat and settle.

Hey Matt!! Great video!! I am almost finishing my beaver (built with the assembly manual you send) and it will have the auxiliary wing tanks. In this video you have them. Would you send me some pics or maybe a raw drawing on how you have it mounted? Thanks a lot!!! If everything goes as expected, it will be flying in no more than 2 weeks, finally!!

300h to overhaul, so every 10 minutes on the Hobbs counts.
@reinerressel9754 ай бұрын
The most enemy is corrosion during the unused time , therefore Rotax has a 300 h TBO . Conservation with special oil ( engine conversation oil ) from a Marin shop is the key , and your 2 Stroke will last more then 800h if you follow the rules eg. max coolant temp max 85 C , max EGT 1150 F , correct installation of the diaphragm fuel pump eg. horizontal , Puls line down and higher then the Puls line Outlet from the engine. Correct engine warm up etc.

What year did YOU experience problems with Dexcool? The name is the same, but I believe the formula has changed since it was introduce. Color remains the same. I'm running it in my 2011 Chevy Impala. Would do you believe is a good alternative to Dexcool?
