Most young people do not have access to the classical guitar or music education. In fact, 51% of young people are not participating in music education at all. Adam Levin has found an innovative solution to this problem through the creation of the non-profit organization, Kithara Project. It is dedicated to improving and transforming the lives of at-risk and underserved young people around the world through the classical guitar. It provides year-round, tuition free classical guitar education to approximately 130 students at four different sites around the United States and Mexico.
Praised for his “visceral and imaginative performances” by the Washington Post, Billboard top-charting classical guitarist and recording artist Adam Levin has performed on four continents across the globe. He performs as a soloist and chamber musician, including partnerships Head of Strings at Syracuse University, William Knuth, as Duo Sonidos, the Great Necks Guitar Trio with Dr. Scott Borg and Matthew Rohde, and with Israeli mandolinist, Jacob Reuven, as Duo Mantar. Adam’s discography includes 12 commercially released albums. He is Professor of Classical Guitar at University of Rhode Island. He co-founded Kithara Project, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children through the classical guitar. He also serves as the artistic director of the Rhode Island Guitar Guild and the University of Rhode Island Guitar Festival. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
