Super Duty Gear Leg Brackets + Update...

Just grabbed my Gear Leg Bracket Kit! I've been trying to decide how to go about running the brake lines and this solves that problem at a very reasonable price.

Fast and clean. The fit and finished job is getting better all the time. It is probably better for a kit builder to just do it best the first time which ultimately builds momentum towards high standards as opposed to good enough that'll work. Scratch building can be rewarding too but building every single part probably isn't realistic even if it could be accomplished.

Mark, I used the Skytek towbar bracket with the zenith towbar on my Cruzer. Works fine.

I agree, I did the same thing and if it didn’t fit exactly you could modify it for the SD Gear leg.

It probably would not be hard to get at Piper like tow bar fabricated. You could then sell the towbar and the bracket it attaches to as a kit. I am guessing there woiuld be other builders who are reluctant to take the route of drilling into their nose gear strut.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve been trying to find a good place for it. If I wear it on my shirt the volume goes up and down depending on if I turn my head or look up and down. I tried it two different places on my hat and half way through the video I moved it forward and that seemed to work the best. I’ll figure it out eventuallly.

Why don't you just weld a tube to the bracket that you made for the fork, rather than drilling a hole in your fork? Same result and you could use whatever tow bar you were going to use with the tube through the fork....

Man great minds think alike. I've been speaking with another viewer who said the same thing and can weld it up for me. So it looks like that is the route I'm going!

For your tow bar, try a steel tube with two tabs welded to it that will interface with the outer two bolt holes. I'll weld one up for you if you send me your dimensions.

Steven can you email me at [e-mail] I have a pic of a plane in the EAA museum that has the bar welded to the bracket which I think is what you are talking about. That would actually work very well!

I wonder if those brake brackets will fit the the non SD Stol gear.

You’re the first lol! I told Steve at Aircraft Specialty that as soon as I post this people will ask if it’s available for the Cruzer and STOL! Right now it’s only available for the Super Duty. The other airplanes have different sized gear. We do have plans to adjust the gear leg brackets to fit the STOL/Cruzer gear. It probably won’t be in the real near future, but it’s on the drawing board.

@@wb6anp Yep the SD gear is wider and thicker. Hopefully we can get the Cruzer/STOL gear leg clamps out soon!

Probably a dumb question coming just from my automotive experience, but what does that starter gear engage with? I'm used to seeing a geared flywheel.

There actually is a large geared flywheel on the front of the engine, but I have it removed at the moment because it just gets in the way while working on the baffling.
