Yeah, it always breaks my heart seeing animals struggling so hard during their rescue. I can't even imagine how terrified they must be when the big hand grabs them. I'm always kinda scared that the poor baby will have a panic attack and die of shock. Thankfully, hope for paws is there to help them, even if they don't realize it at first.

We do this enough to our own species, yet when we show kindness to another we created (albeit ages and ages ago) it seems less humane - in my eyes it is more. That being said, I try and help any who need - human or otherwise. Seems like humans have a lot more help than animals - just look at criminal punishments. A judge is likely to laugh off animal cruelty (hopefully that is my own negativity to how we treat them rather than a reflection of reality, but it is what I see) and punish human cruelty - which is as it should be for humans, but not for animals. WE domesticated them, we have a responsibility.

Lori W She had heart failure and severe kidney failure and a mass on her heart. She was suffering horribly and when I asked the vet what she would do if she was her dog she said euthanize because she is suffering and she wasn’t going to get better. It was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make but I promised her when I rescued her that I wouldn’t allow her to suffer anymore. It hurts daily but I know she is not suffering.

I do too. Especially on areas I know there are cats or kittens that run across the road. I have a lot of cats and kittens (30) that are mine or rescues. I plan to put up a sign to tell neighbors to slow down because I live in the country (16 acres) and most of my cats roam free.

I've been doing cat rescues for three decades something i do is put can of wet food first to draw kittens out if at age can eat and that helps me get the count on number of kittens before attempt catching so i know i got them all. MARTIN, almost all nonprofits pay top administrators and professionals who know how to advance and navigate their group. It's part of the cost of doing business in our country. It costs money to advertise and solicit funds, not just the expenses of direct patient care: food, medicine and medical supplies, traps and netting, gloves, cheeseburgers, tuna, other foods, transportation/maintenw, cages, plane tickets, gas, bookkeepers, web designers, copying literature to hand out to the public or to train volunteers, space rentals. The point is to find nonprofits and charities with a decent financial profile, that use a significant portion of the proceeds for direct care, the purpose of the charity. It takes money to make money, but some are greedy with a dubious past. One conservation group surprised me when I found out their actions had cost st least one endangered species its life, it went extinct due to their mistakes, so they're not getting anything from me again, not now or after I die. Even this group had some disturbing comments online from their past from other supposed rescuers, when I researched it a few years ago, but none of it proven, it could be gossip or jealousy. Jealousy and gossip are things I've found in many grass roots organizations, sometimes because people care, sometimes because they're petty. The HFP group is polished and well known, and that can generate competition for your dollars. Just go to the charity navigators and read how they're doing now. There are smaller groups that aren't even big enough to be reviewed by navigators, consider their hard work, too. And as far as the catty comment here about Eldad's personal life: what the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Do you really know him personally? It's really none of your business, and doesn't affect his rescues. Just focus on his group's professional behavior and their statistics. I'm sure you have some skeletons in your closet, so you're just "the pot calling the kettle black." Everyone has personal lives. There are impartial charity navigators online that rate organizations. There are a few erstwhile nonprofits that run ads on TV, for example, with dubious past histories and a mediocre financial profile, that prey upon people's sentiments: one deals with veterans but has a shady past, one is a religious solicitor who pays himself millions each year, he loves looking like a martyr through cultural appropriation. And most fundamentalist mega churches have also been exposed. Before you donate your hard earned money, do research... of any nonprofit. Try to remember that some money must be spent to "prime the pump." It costs money to become 501(c)(3), to have licenses and permits, all that stuff.
