Did you forget about The Carter Family? Kitty, as amazing as she was, didn't start it all for women in country music. If you're talking airplay nationally, then that is something I don't have enough data to comment on. Glad you're a fan of this style. I hope you're going to shows. Lots of great female country singers out there who aren't famous and playing bars/clubs.
@taylorhauntus
@taylorhauntus 2 ай бұрын
@@someguy4505 as groundbreaking as Maybelle and Sarah were, they didn't manage to open the industry's doors for female country singers right after them. Well, in the late 20s and 30s there really wasn't an industry to begin with. That changed in the late 40s and especially in the 1950s. Kitty was the first female country artist to consistently chart hit after hit and soon after others followed: Goldie Hill, Skeeter Davis, Jean Shepard, Patsy Cline and on and on into the 1960s. We neeeded that one female sensation to start it all in the 1950, and she was there to deliver.

A great singer... a great song! I found this: ""It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" is a 1952 country song written by J. D. "Jay" Miller, and recorded by Kitty Wells. It was an answer song to the Hank Thompson hit "The Wild Side of Life." The song -which blamed unfaithful men for creating unfaithful women- became the first No. 1 Billboard country hit for a solo woman artist. In addition to helping establish Wells as country music's first major woman star, "It Wasn't God..." paved the way for other women artists, particularly Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Jean Stafford (Australia),[2] and songs where women call out unfaithful men. It was preserved by the National Recording Registry in 2007.

@RawPhotography you are so right. It seems like almost every day I see a new artist that is supposed to play country like it used to be (and I know there are groups out there playing real country - there's just none on the radio). Seems like around the time of "Urban Cowboy" it took a wrong turn and never steered things back.

@@rollnrocksteve Lack of money in Real Country Music I do believe, there's more INSTANT cash available for the pathetic ' three word screechers' of today, backed by equally incompetent idiots plunking guitars, they make the hit parade because those who operate the Studios ( thus the music choices), have little knowledge of any style of music, also the impressionable 'young' folk who are ardent radio listeners,(albeit on the earbuds and Smart Phones) believe what they hear, if they are told 'THis is Great Music, they sadly believe it, the lack of ability in discernment is rampant today.There are, however, a good selections of REAL COUNTRY music groups available on the net, it's a matter of seeking it out from the garbage unfortunately, be patient and you'll find it.

My dad was in the Army in Korea when this amazing song was at the top of the charts in the United States. I'm sure it helped him get over being home-sick. He loved all music and was greatly inspired by the 1st Queen of Country music Kitty Wells....

Setting here listening to this and crying. My dad is in the room with me. The only reason I exist is he was 25 years old and married, mom was 17, 1966. I'm the bastard child lol. The thing is, I could never raise hell with him or disrespect him over it all. My mama has passed and his wife of 61 years has been in a nursing home for 11 years. I showed up a few months ago and nothing has been moved or changed since she left. It doesn't make me feel good that he's been alone all this time, it just reinforces my belief that WE ALL reap what we sew.
