Her voice sounds exactly like my mother's; so clear, pure, powerful, yet soft and gentle at the same time, and angelic. My mom always sang to me, when I was a baby, and a young child. It was so beautiful and comforting. I miss her. She passed away, a few years ago, just after my 30th birthday.🤍

I was 10 years old when this came out and even after 66 years it still takes me back to a simpler more trusting time in the US, one that was about goals of hope and love we had known as a people. America has lost much since the 50s and it lifts my spirits to know that some of what was best about us as a people still survives and will never fade as long as there are those who remember where we came from, who we were and above all why we made and enjoyed music such as this.

I still remember the first time I heard this song as a rock-loving teenager in the early 80's. I was complaining while I listened that it was too slow just like all those other 50's songs. Then she started singing that bridge and the world stopped and vanished, leaving only this song. To this day, everything comes to a stop when I hear this song playing.

A 19 year old Phil Spector wrote and arranged this song which was #1 on the Billboard charts for 3 weeks. An auspicious beginning to a brilliant career to say the least. In the 60's and 70's...Phil was THE MAN as far as a record producer. He steered the boat on a ton of #1 hits like the Righteous Bros. "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". - Heartbreaking that later in life he went so far off the rails he somehow got convicted of murder and died in prison.

Good Lord, what a shock. Of course the social climate pervading the West and I suppose culminating in America, is liquor, substance abuse, illicit sex, gambling and meat eating. The modes of ignorance and passion grip the people, even the talented gifted and sincere musicians in the business. We could do our title part (which is actually big) and just drink milk, spare the cow her life, and forgo the all pervasive imported coffee, to really start all over with a more peaceful world, as Perry C hints at in this long ago classic video. 📣🥛

Something about this song is quite unlike any other, I definitely see why John Lennon said he heard the wall of sound on it but it’s not the fully realised wall of sound as this was Spector’s first record when he was just 18 years old and yet there’s something haunting and most definitely timeless about the song, instrumentation, the vocal harmonies and production, even then Spector understood the previously unrealised importance of an echoic kick drum. When she glides into that bridge, stops you in your tracks. Undeniably genius and highly influential.

Ya see...sometimes we just have to separate the performer's personal trials, and just appreciate the talent and skill that they bring for us to enjoy....I am not religious, but I believe the Bible says something like, "He who is without Sin, shall cast the first stone"...we humans are complex, and far from perfect!...many performers carry grief within, and try to turn it into something postive...when Jimi Hendrix was first becoming popular, he was asked what he could wish for..." I would love to bring back my mother" he said...she had died when he was fifteen, and it clearly haunted him during his brief, amazing career.

Today hearing the death of Phil Spector brought me here. In the early years he wrote and produced many fabulous songs and groups. I do thank him for that.

Even as young kid and listening to my sister's music, I really liked this song. I can't help but think that Phil Spector helped shape the youth of tomorrow in the 50's & 60". Possibly those that heard his songs had a great life living life to the fullest and respecting others. Great song and Thank You for putting on KZbin!

Lyrics To know, know, know him Is to love, love, love him Just to see him smile Makes my life worthwhile To know, know, know him Is to love, love, love him And I do I'll be good to him I'll bring love to him Everyone says there'll come a day When I'll walk alongside of him Yes, just to know him Is to love love love him And I do Why can't he see How blind can he be? Someday he will see That he was meant for me, oh To know, know, know him Is to love love love him Just to see him smile Makes my life worthwhile To know, know, know him Is to love love love him And I do
