Beautiful lake! It’s geological activities with the possibility of releasing methane gas from an underwater explosion kept reminding of 1986. Lake Nyos in Cameroon. We can only pray that no such tragedy happens at Kivu

yes this is exactly the same process in Nyos, and it showed how dangerous it is.

There are now one major plant turning methan gas to electricity and another big one is about completion to generate cooking gas, that's all on the part of Rwanda. But there are good side of that lake, there are no dangerous animals like hippos or crocodiles, yet there are fish, and modern fish farming is also expanding in that region.

Thanks of the video! The water of Kivu is 24°C and the air is 20°C ... nice readings. Some crazy people swim here in Finland at the winter time. The water in a hole in the ice is 2°C and the air is - 20°C or even colder. Refreshing 🙂. If you drown in water, you will suffocate. In the region of Kivu you can suffocate at shore ... if you have bad luck. One terrible day the CO2, rising from the lake will displace oxygen and you will sort of drown. ☹

Putting that $1,000 barrier on such activity as gorilla observation trek is like killing the proverbial goose. Rwandan authorities should find a way to make those tourism activities cheaper, otherwise, their tourism potential using these attractions will be limited.
