Aaah, chilean customs... once they opened a bag of beads that I bought from ebay. Beads... they didn't close it after so I got a bag with 2 or 3 beads in it lol. I liked this video though, I didn't know we had MRE, this is so interesting! We live of bread, so this having like 3 differents kind of food similar to bread makes sense to me hahaha. Bread is love, bread is life.

It's D.E.A and customs from Chile looking for drugs. I think they took the chocolate bar, which may alerted the drug dogs. Chile has their own suppliers for M.R.E in country. It's really hard to get Chilean M.R.E. from these areas intact. They buy a lot from the US and local sources.

First of all, I'm from Chile. While I was watching your videos I see the word "chilean" and I literally say "whaaaaaaaat!!!!". I've never think of seeing that in youtube, and it's really sad you couldn't get the products safe, but your attitude it's really nice to the situation and I appreciate that. Rice with milk it's one of my favorite desserts (I don't know how it was cooked but the homemade version it's delicious), and the snacks included were really good (I mean, salt peanuts and sunflower seed are awesome, well, for me). For the meal I don't think I would like it, I'm really picky with food (if it's too bland, etc) but I hope it was nice. Excuse me if I did grammar mistakes haha, I don't usually make comments in youtube, but this was necessary. Good channel!!!!

I think it wasn't NZ customs. I've had them open packages before and they put a sticker on it to say they opened it ! Those customs officials really went to town on this package though ! Even the lollies got sliced open despite the window on the front of packaging !

I noticed a couple of products were made/ packed in Columbia, I guess that says it all, I dare say coffee with whitener went through all the tests. Logically, they stuck the side of the bag expecting cocaine or heroine to pour out. Which caused the hole in the baggie. Which only happened when they saw the brown paper marked "To the Boss". Then they opened it and found candy, ate one obviously. Then they opened the main pack and realized they splattered the fruit and just kept looking for the good stuff... which sadly they weren't going to find. My 2 cents.

TonixTech Doubt it, they scan these through a machine first. If they detect any known substance they will cut the bag open. This just look like they were a little too knife happy and decided to check each individual bag, it is Chile so I can't say for sure how they do it there.

If I had to guess on the sequence of events at Chilean Customs it went something like this: Custom official sees a "home packaged" box going to an addressee in NZ with a non-Hispanic/Latin name (it's called profiling). He/she gets suspicious of drugs/contraband. Opens the box sees a heavy thick green plastic bag, gets more suspicious that the bag is containing contraband and decides to open it. Opens it from the middle of the bag and slices into the apple sauce and sees leakage, now has to open the bag up to investigate. Slices the bag at the top with a large box-cutter and inadvertently slices into other items. Then at this point gets curious what all this stuff is and why anyone would want vacuumed packed generic meals, and decides to open a few things out of curiosity (like soy bread) and in the interest of doing his/her job. Usually, in other countries, when they damage something they either seal that item up separately and sometimes send it separately or put a slip in saying that an item was damaged with a short description and details to process any insurance claims. Sadly, Chile probably has reasons to be suspicious of overseas packages because of the countries she borders and illegal narcotic trade.

TonixTech Oh they steal a ton of stuff. I'm collection old coins and they not only had the gull to slice open the pack and put it inside their customary bags of breached items(indicating zero intelligence, loosing the pack would of had been simpler) but also removed the coin having left behind the ripped apart container that was sealed. Tracking the asshole down two postal stations down was fun. Getting the coin back was pure gold.

Seems that you tasted some of our chilean customs hospitality. We have some strict rules for food/drugs import/export lot of paperwork. Try bringing an apple to the airport and see what happens. (Probably they where looking for drug smuggling for the look of it)

the tape O.C.P.I. Santiago Aforado means that Chilean customs opened the package and sealed it back up. It tells O.C.P.I (postal service) in Santiago that it has cleared customs

I'm currently living in Chile.. I have been for about 2 years now, and almost everything I have shipped out or recieved in the mail from other countries has been tampered with.. the chilean customs are a real pain in the ass... not to mention every other aspect of beurocracy here. It's ok to go here for a vacation, but living here is a real nightmare. The government is controling everything... It's impossible even to eat a good meal at a restaurant, because they are not allowed to cook with enough salt to make the food taste anything... everything is bland as hell... for example the bread used to taste amazing here.. you would buy fresh baked, warm, crunchy, really tasty bread every day. But now the bread is tasteless and boring.. They say it is to make people eat healthier, and that's all good. But they are forcing people to eat tasteless food...

I think they did xray it an saw in the cake/bread package the desiccant in there an thought it was a bag of drugs or something.

First of all awsome video as always! tho it was so long i had to fit in a snack brake ;) and nice to se you getinge the boos a bit more in to what exactly shes testing more of that! I did get a bit curius to the slaughet of the rations by an non disclosed customs, and or why it happend. it was not easy to find any good info (guess i just search for the wrong stuff) but what maniged to find and be the issue is probably the folowing 1. Drugs search not that far fetched by the look of things 2. Some regulation of export of military items i could not find. 3. Invalid or lack of propper declaration whitch is a big no no if i got it right, that probebly trigers nr 1. finaly i wonder if stuff got seized or not and what a non tamperd one looks like, maybe a future project huh? ;) as always keep up the good work.

The Magnus Thanks Magnus. My guess is No.1. I can't imagine there'd be too many people sending military rations out of Chile, so it may have looked a little suss! I'm glad the package made it though. Was still really interesting to experience.

I remember when i came to London a colleague of mine had brought down some sunflower seeds and when he opened the pack i was like you're gonna plant them in the clinic and he gave me a bland straight face i laugh so hard when i think about it hahaha :)

Looks like most of the items in this pack were made in Colombia, judging by all the times I read either Bogotá or Cundinamarca (the region that Bogotá is in). My family is from there, so it's interesting to see an example of what a few of my cousins in the military ate out in the field!

The Chilean Army , makes contracts for supply uniforms and rations from the most convenient source in this case much of the stuff from Colombia great coffee and uniforms! , for some areas of ration , some of the ammo from Paraguay , I remember some military family getting brazilian boots in late 70-80's , ( korean uniforms in the Marines ) even US Vietnam rations in the 70's were cheaper than dirt and bad tasting.

As to the double up of main: you'll always have squadmates to trade with. And as to comparing military sizes, you may make the 60 000 strong ADF look big but A) high quality troops and B) we have friends.

Customs can be really dumb sometimes. Many years ago I remember Them opening a large shipment of 35mm film and light sensitive paper. It was ALL destroyed : ( Still looks like good ration kit !

Another great review friend. Sorry package was compromised, but, as you said, customs do have A job to do. You did very well with what was left !! I agree with you, Vanilla , real Vanilla, is underrated !! My Mexican friend, visits home 2 times A year. Brings me real Vanilla extract, made with Alcohol, sorry. Better than imitation, and better flavor! Also agree, some kind of spread would be helpful! Enjoyed review completely. AND AGAIN, Great review, but someone else stole the show. Some competition coming along in later reviews?? LOL ! When ready??, Peace, Magnum, John !!!!!

meh you really need to keep track of the damages to packages that customs has caused you can get the value of damage back from them. they aren't immune to lawsuits dude. plenty of people have sued customs for mishandling of packages.
