God dam I loved this. She’s an absolute psychopath. She wasn’t abused by her stepsister. But instead she manipulated everyone around her with sweet smiles and apology’s. She talks to a doll which has an ego of its own which is just a self projection of her own intelligence and she treats other people as dolls or playthings. I loved it. A really good take of the Cinderella movie we all know and love. Must watch

But why do you love this? This is just Cinderella but if she was Japanese, more privileged than her step-family and a psychopath. At least the takes other episodes have had substance of their own and weren't sticking to source material as much as this episode so the twists in the later episodes were more tolerable and appreciable. All this episode had to offer was a Cinderella Japanese Psycho version. Nothing more and nothing less. No worldbuilding, no unique environment(simple mild Japanization and increasing the maturity doesn't count), not much else. And that frustrates the heck out of me. If the ONLY thing they had for Cinderella was "What if Cinderella was a psychopath?", then to me, that's ruining the charm of the original story instead of offering something fresh and unique. The other episodes at least gave their own stories, this one didn't. This episode to me was their weakest.

@@Zero_Tester I am not an anime critic(though as a 2 years KZbinr with less than 60 views and less than 10 subscribers, I am considering it), I am just saying that as someone who likes the message of the original story, if the new take they have to offer is "What if Cinderella was a psychopath?" then no wonder some people are not gonna like it. Maybe if I wasn't familiar with the themes and character of the original version, I would have liked it a little bit more(though I'd still criticize it for being so predictable and unnecessarily suspenseful) but this episode was just a less magical and evil Japanese version of the same exact story. The other episodes had way more unique ideas than this. My personal favorite was their take on Hansel and Gretel but I'd argue that their most unique episode was the "Elves and the Shoemaker" one as well it wasn't really for me(since I am a layman), I could see professional writers relating to that story and finding it deep. Also, I am not into bashing popular stuff, I just dislike whatever I dislike and like whatever I like.

I mean in this story the only people I felt bad for were the stepsisters. I hated the lord and Kiyoko's servants for the way they treated the stepsisters... Like at least the lord thought he did something but all those servants did was b***h behind the stepsisters' backs. Tho still I mean, ik they were being manipulated by Kiyoko but man I hate them. The way the Duke acted all righteous, acted like he knows Kiyoko more than anyone, and (also the servants for this one) dissed the sisters made me seethe! After watching it twice, it’s such a good twist from the Cinderella story that we know. To the eyes of others it would look like the Step Sisters to be the wicked ones, but in reality Cinderella is the wicked one, a manipulator to make herself the innocent one. The whole being a servant part for the last 5 years was her choice which result not seeing the heir outside the house. Making the town believe that the step sisters are the wicked ones. The whole episode was just brilliant, so different from the story that is familiar to everyone.

The problem of this episode is that Kyoko plan works only because everyone around her is incredibly stupid. We the stepmother continues to take.Kyoko medicine doesn't she understands that are they are making her sick? At first the stepsisters intend to manipulate Kyoko and prey on her niceness because they’re not really nice people either, just nicer than Kyoko. By the time they realize she’s serving them in order to make it look like they’re abusing her there’s nothing they can do about it since she continues to do so whether they ask or not and yelling at her to stop just makes her do the sad crying act. The one time they make a concerted effort to tell her off she throws herself down the stairs to make it look like they were yelling at her and pushed her. As for the mother drinking the tea the thing she says at the end about the tea making people relax suggests it muddles the mind enough that the victim doesn’t necessarily have the cognitive abilities to realize what’s happening to them. That and she’d been careful up until that point to keep up the act that she thought of her stepmother as her mother so the stepmother never suspected Kyoko would poison her.

I was glad that her stepsisters escaped her, but wow pretending and putting on for everyone even though at the beginning they were rude and spoiled. They let their reputations be ruined and baited Kiyoko into meeting the lord so they could finally be free. I felt bad mostly for the step-mother... Kiyoko is what I'd describe as psychopathic cinderella syndrome, manipulation and death are the only things she knows and finds pleasure in...though not all psychopaths are killers, it's amazing the act she put on so that everyone pities and adores her with no one ever questioning it. She even killed her father, because he thought that his stepdaughters were menaces and was going to deport them, and that would mean Kiyoko losing her two favorite dolls.

So, unrelated to this particular story, but here's a theory: -I think Gretel did exist at some point, but due to an old japanese superstition of twins bringing bad luck, the parents, in the anime, must have killed her, leading Hansel to create his own Gretel. But then he travelled to another world (which I'm starting to think might be ground 0 for a future adaptation of Peter Pan), and unable to let her go, especially because he was the only child there, he created a split personality, leading him to become that woman in Pied Piper. The question now is how he got the cloak, which must be the explanation as to how he acquired that form in "Pied Piper".

Speaking of "KH", there are two fics of it that may interest those in this fandom who know that saga: "The Twilight Will" - a Roxas centered fic in which he refused to merge back with Sora. Gathering all of his power, he escapes, travelling to realms beyond "KH" that were unnafected by the war, as such, maintaining light, darkness and nothingness together. Worlds include "American Mcgee's Alice", "God of War" and "Bioshock"; "Sea-Change of Fate" - this one is a fic series. Kairi deviates from the script predicted for her, choosing to accompany Sora, Donald ("Ducktales" reboot version) and Goofy on their journey after "KH 1". Now, the author uses mostly the manga elements (making fights more violent), along with exploring the sexuality of the cast more, it's true. But they integrate it well in the story. Plus, it's refreshing to see Kairi, Sora and Riku behave like actual teens whose hormones and emotions are all over the place. And seeing Maleficent, though a bit unwillingly, bond with the likes of Riku, Vanitas and Naminé is very cute. The cast may feel kinda dirtier, but also more sincere than in canon. So yeah. I suggest these stories here, because like the "Grimm Variations", both explore a dirtier side of whatever it is Nomura may executed more poorly in canon. I highly recommend them.

How? How did they do that? With these Cinderella horror movies remakes they’ve been trying to make over here in the West. None of them give me a sense of dread, but rather complete boredom. I mean, there is one that is legit going be Carrie with Cinderella name. And yet, in just 3 minutes. This made me tense, and it doesn’t even try to overly subtle. The girl is a psychopath. She’s fully aware of it and even loves it. That what make this unsettling.
