When I take manifolds off I have a couple of long bolts I cut the heads off. And I cut a groove for a flat head screwdriver. They work well for both on and off.

8:55 that killed mine in my 97 Z. Cranked it up and zero oil psi. teeth worn so thin they sheared off. That was at 180k miles. I suppose at 150k or so ought to change that gear just for S&G... Great Vid man!

Thanks. There have been a few engines that were lost like that. Yours and I have a recent customer that last oil pressure but he didn’t ruin the motor he had just turned the engine off he had no oil pressure and that was the reason

Interesting. Never heard anyone call a harmonic balancer a hub and never heard a caprice called a cap rice.
@EllweinEngines
@EllweinEngines 2 жыл бұрын
The hub is the hub and the balancer/damper is the damper (in my mind). So if you see a damper on the engine...I'm seeing a damper bolted to a hub. I'll usually say "take the hub off or press on the hub". that is the hard part...the press on. What do you call the hub? Cap Rice started back in the 90s when people took Caprices and 9c1's and put impala SS trip parts on them and called them impala SS's. Now the term has morphed into a the definition of a hopped up Caprice.

I would love a set of cheap core LT1 aluminum heads! I have a block I want to start building on and want to send my heads to LE but don’t have the time to let my car sit while I work on it.

Hardly, my 94 Trans Am LT1 has 338.000 miles on it, never been touched, even the timing chain is original. Bought it new, runs and sounds like new. Uses no oil.

But after adjusting and tightening them down once I run the car at idle the oil pressure is good around 40 then while its warming at idle it starts dropping oil pressure slowly I’m thinking it could be the new sensor I put in it or the oil pump or warn engine bearings I’m looking everywhere but idk what could be the problem because it never dropped like that before the head gasket change
@cabillionare1

40 psi then slowly drops after a minute or two to around 20 psi then slowly to almost no oil pressure and after a min it drops to zero oil pressure and I shut the car off

I have a question for you about the flexplate. So I'm putting a 97 lt1 in my 87 gmc pickup with a 700r4. Trying to find the one I need and you said yours was a "1 piece 153 tooth externally balanced". I'm to I need a 1 piece 158 tooth internally balanced. Could you give me some insight on this? Thanks

Nice video ,I just got an LT1 from a Corvette I'm gonna drop it in my Cadillac Fleetwood is there anything different or something that needs to be changed before I drop it in ,,tnks
@EllweinEngines
@EllweinEngines 2 жыл бұрын
The corvette steam line will need to be swapped for the fleetwood steam line. The accessory bracket also needs to be the Fleetwood. That's about it. Oh. The crankshaft hub and damper needs to be the fleetwood and not the corvette unless you space out the accessory bracket to line up.

I have a oil pressure issue and it seems u r the only that actually knows about these lt1’s….so my issue is my 96 impala ss oil pressure reads 45 - 55 psi cold, driving high speeds 30 psi and hot engine @ idle 8 psi…what is the normal and do I have an issue…engine has 85k on it
@EllweinEngines
@EllweinEngines 2 жыл бұрын
If it is a stock engine and not rebuilt then that is ok hot oil pressure. It would be nice if it were 10 to 15 psi at idle hot and more pressure at high rpm. The stock pump is standard pressure standard volume and some have seen that low pressure. If you put a new oil pump in (I like the high pressure standard volume). Make sure the engine has a stock windage tray.

@EllweinEngines
@EllweinEngines 3 жыл бұрын
not on LT1's They don't have the water passage in the right spot. I guess i use the term Vortec too loosely. Vortec headsd are 'like' the LT1 head but not a direct fit.

The iron heads are so heavy. I have no use for them. The aluminum heads do have a utility and can be sent to Lloyd Elliott for a good porting job.
