I enjoy your videos and learning from them. You built the street engine for my 94 Impala. The original engine was not used for this and just sits around on a stand. I may take it apart and inspect it for a “beginner rebuild” for me. Maybe just rings and bearings and low cost stuff to learn and get my hands dirty. I’ll need to rewatch some tech tip Tuesdays and pick up some helpful tools!

You'll probably do a better-than-most- pro rebuild. Should be fun too.

Hi I saw that you ran in the 9 sec range with the 650hp lt1 which radiator did you use and did you have any over heating problems just curious because I am building something similar and am trying to decide on a radiator thanks.

Can you tune a built Grand sport Lt4 pcm
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
Yes, LT4 for a corvette? Built motor all natural? Can do that but I prefer to have the car and I'm not the best for remote tune. I'm sure others can do a remote tune

@Ellwein, I'm considering, after bolt up mod, a super victor EFI the AFR LT4 210s that Lloyd ported. My startup will be on ported and matched lt4 intake. Without aftermarket avaliable pioneering brings innovation. Just looking for anybody playing in this direction. I know you and Richard have dyno'd the lt1 carb and oem efi . Looking for dyno run 383 afr 210+ lt4 super victor efi, elbow with 102mm tb plate. My expectation is more torque on the curve starting at 1800rpm
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
I have not dynoed that specific setup, so I can't really say what to expect. But if I were you, I would go for it. But I know that others have done it be modifying the super victor intake. They were all for forced induction or nitrous.

I use the taller 51061 on my engines ,i chamfer the oil hole going into the block, and install the adapter with the by pass bulge to the outside of the block to allow less restriction to the oil passage in the block, and eliminate and plug the wimpy by pass ,because the filter has a by pass in the bottom of it, pput a long screw driver in the filter and press down really hard and you will feel the spring give
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
I'm glad you shared that tip! Plug the bypass. I'll be doing that in the future for all engine builds.

Long crank bolts were to stop snout failures back in the 90s.

Question,is there a reason with doing this nice build with no 4 bolt conversion?in my mind just cheap insurance since your rebuilding.
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
No reason. When building for someone else you have to go with their wants and their budget. At some point they put a stop to the invoice rising cost. I think some like to stay 2-bolt now matter what if they are mild rpm and all natural and spend every penny on good heads and other things.

Hello from Romania 🇷🇴 I have a 1993 LT1, and i want to carb swap the engine. The engine is out, the old parts that i have ar kind of really old and i want new ones. Tell me if this list is good ! GMPP intake Carburetor ( but what carb does this intake accepts ? I was thinking for a 600 cfm one, but wich one ?!. And i need one that allows the tv kicdown cable bracket for the transmission to shift. Any advice heare also is needed.) Hei distribuitor Starter Water pump Plugs and wires Radiator. What about the ground wires and what mecanical gauges should i use ? If i miss something help me out ! Or help me the corect list ! I allways watch your videos. Thanks !!!
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
I can offer only a few tips. I think it is a good plan and good list. The GMPP intake is drilled to fit 2 different carburetor bolt patterns. I cannot guess on a good carburetor because I have very little experience. Ground wire would be the engine block to battery? Is that what you are asking for ground wires? Mechanical gauges.. water temperature and oil pressure and battery volt. / amp

My 383 LT1 has ported trickflows somewhere around 195cc and 10.75:1 compression on E85. Big cam, ported intake, going Torquehead soon as I can afford it. Id be happy to get 500hp

Hey carl i have a question i bought a fully rebuilt 77-79 350 4bolt this was professional built its forged blower pistons in it and it has an old school B&M Blower cam 3444 heads are 338 casting there port and polished,new valves,Comp steel roller tip rocker arms its actually was built for a blower. My question is what intake can i use if im not using a blower right now i put an Air gap eddy vic jr intake on it and i have a 750 double pump ATM carb would that work for me with that set up cause i think the compression is 8.7-1 or 8.9-1 compression.Good video by the way 🤙
@albertorodriguez6661Ай бұрын
Also if you got any info on the that cam it would greatly be appreciated I bought the motor off face book market place for $400 bucks it sat in a corner in a garage with all the ports blocked off and well lubricated and covered with a blanket so not I have it painted up and dressed up ready to drop in my 85 monte Carlo anyways any info would be greatly appreciated 🙏🤘🤙

Karl do you use a break in oil on the dyno runs when you build these engines? I recently have been watching Lake Speed Jr on his oil geek youtube channel and he stresses NOT to use synthetic oils during the break in as the riings need the friction to seal well and the friction modifiers in the synthetic oils hamper this. Your thoughts?
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
Yes, break in oil. I do what Lake Speed Jr. is recommending. Good info and stuff from Lake Speed.

Man tuning is a pain to get into. My 96 T/A was given all the LT4 goodies by a previous owner but never tuned, runs fine down low but falls on its face in the higher rpm (decelerates in 6th gear wide open throttle at 65mph, backfires at 3k nearly every shift). I'd take it to someone but it seems like in ancient art here in the midwest (mail in tunes likely won't work as I don't have an exact modification list). And buying a $400 tuner that I have no experience to use seems foolhardy. Any pointers to someone experienced in the Illinois/Indiana area would be extremely appreciated.
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
The only pointer I can give is you'll have to do it yourself and it takes quite a bit of seat time but every little bit of tuning and learning will add up and your skill will eventually be better than most tuners for this older platform.

Talked to Callies looking for a 3.875 rotating assembly. They told me they don't make a compstar 1pc seal crank and the dragonslayer crank and compstar rods assembly bumps up to a $6500. Not in my budget. So ..... off to eagle 383 we go
@EllweinEngines14 күн бұрын
Yup. That's why I am with Eagle cranks for the medium budget. The magnum crank is big money.

I figure they stored it on that side, not totally upside down but over on it's side. The drivers side valve cover is pushed in to suggest that.
