Since their Eurovision debut in 2003, Ukraine has become one of the most successful participants, being the only country that never failed to qualify. After two initial internal selections, Ukraine always held a national final with the exception of the post-cancellation year 2021. Here are some interesting facts about ukrainian selection (part 1) 2005: Selection for Eurovision 2005 is possibly the longest in the history of Eurovision - it started on November 1, 2005 and continued until March 2005, there were a total of 15 semi-finals (!) madness! Rumour has it that president influenced the results. 2006: Irina Rosenfeld (runner-up) performed together with Tina Karol at Jewish music festivals, she was popular for a while, but then she had a stroke, due to which she repatriated to Israel for treatment, later participated in the Eurovision selection from Israel in the same year when Netta won (or year earlier) 2007: The choice of Verka Serdyuchka was controversial, in almost every interview Andriy Danylko (actually Serdyuchka) mentions how Verka Serdyuchka's doll was burned on the Maidan, but after the 2nd place he was met as a hero, he describes that period as extremely difficult and psychologically exhausting for himself 2009: Anastasia Prykhodko, who will later represent Russia, was actually disqualified from the Ukrainian selection, because the song exceeded 3 minutes (lol, they didn't know about revamps then). However, this did not stop her, because in 2007 she won the Russian star factory and had the best producer of russia and Ukraine behind her (Konstyantin Meladze) she was included in the list of participants in the russian selection literally at the last moment, and represented russia with a ukrainian-language song, while Ukraine has never been represented by a russian-language song. Also, 2nd place at that selection was shared by Alexander Panayotov, who took part in the russian selection many times and always took second place, they studied with Alyosha (Ukraine 2010) at the same music school in the same city. Also interesting, Svitlana Loboda sold her apartment to create a performance for Eurovision, and Til Lindemann from Rammstein is the father of her children, although there is no official confirmation, but one of the daughters is called Tilda 2010: If in 2005 there was the longest selection, then in 2010 it was possibly the latest final of the national selection - March 20th, since this is practically the deadline, Alyosha wrote a new song in just two days

The only ones who should've won were Tayanna with "I Love You" in 2017 and KRUTЬ with "Kolyskova" in 2023. In 2007 I voted for Eugenia Vlasova and her brilliant song "I Will Be" but Verka won. Back then no one knew what Verka would do on ESC stage. Eugenia would be 2nd too, I'm sure in it. ILLARIA is another fantastic Ukrainian folk/rock artist. Her 2014, 2017 and 2018 entries are phenomenal. I hope wins one day

Scary fact about the runner-up of 2013 selection Dasha Medova, she went missing in 2018 and was never found since then, it's believed she was murdered by her ex-husband

Well, it's probably football to blame. In 2012, Ukraine held European Championship together with Poland. And Gaitana's song was expected to become an anthem of Euro-20212, but Oceana - Endless Summer was chosen instead. Rinat Akhmetov, the richest person in Ukraine and an owner of Shakhtar football club, definitely had enough resources to push Gaitana to Eurovision instead as a compensation. Because she already was close to him as a singer of Shakhtar's anthem.

Didn't say a word after 24.2.2022 despite her own relatives being in mortal danger daily. Got disowned by everyone everywhere. She gave like 1 very bizarre interview in 2022 to a russian outlet. It's quite pathetic really.

Evgenia had a very powerful song that year ("I Will Be"). It would be the first Ukrainian ballad on Eurovision. Yes, Verka became an Icon but I'm sure, Evgenia would achieve the 2nd place too, or even the 1st. You may also check ILLARIA's entries from 2014, 2017 and 2018. Her folk music is really creative

I know Verka is popular and fun, but I do like Evengiya's song more. It wouldnt have got second place, but it's a great ballad. I'm glad Aloysha got the job in 2010 even if I liked Irina Rosenfeld's song a lot more. Max Barskih would have done way better than Gaitana in 2012. The Hardkiss...I hope they try again. Tayanna would have done the double in 2017 for Ukraine. Safe top 5 in 2018. Unpopular opinion, Maruv would have finished 11-15. The jury would have put her dead last and it may have been cancelled out by Hatari (chasing the same voters) for being provocative. Throw in shes a very weak vocalist. It'd have been a Let 3 style outcome.
