For me it’s definitely Dune Part 2. Saw it for the first time while being on vacation in Iceland in the only cinema of the second largest city of the country on the day it was released. Only got half of it since a lot was in a fictional language and the subtitles were in Icelandic. But i still managed to get a lot of it due to the impeccable directing. Then i watched it 6 times at home, 4 of these in the nearest IMAX cinema (which is 3,5h away xD) Such a great movie and overall experience, especially on the largest cinema screen on earth :D

I usually hate quick cut editing but the way that you do it strategically in the midst of nice long analysis is so fuckin funny, great list!! 2024 feels like a really quality year for cinemum. I always admire a best of list with movies I am unfamiliar with. Of course, being a cinefile I already anticipate Andrea Arnold's Bird and The Substance, but thanks so much for shouting out Christmas Eve, which I had not heard of and discovered it's directed by Tyler Teorama who blew me away with his awesome debut Ham on Rye. Altman indeed!!!

At this point in the year, the best movies I've seen are usually prestige movies from the previous year, that got released later in my country. In this case: Killers of the Flower Moon, Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives. Though I really should've seen Dune: Part Two and Challengers by now, those seem great! Here in The Netherlands, Dune 2 has now started to leave theatres, but luckily a cinema in the Hague is doing a Dune special in July: Dune 2 in digital and in 70mm, a double bill of the two movies, the version by Lynch, Jodorowksy's Dune. So I'll be catching Dune 2 next week, I'm really looking forward to it! I rewatched the first one in preparation and I liked it way more this time around (first time I watched it, some of the story details flew over my head)
