But this one, by her personality, values, and the fact that he was the villain of her friends' stories, never allowed herself to develop the feelings which she started to feel for him. At the very end, she half-confesses to Klaus that she always wanted him to be the man he's become before he died. That if he had been that man earlier, she would have allowed herself to love him. And that he's never been the villain in her story. It is touching, sad and realistic at the same time. They could have been something but the timing, their different allegiance and Klaus' personality when they first met, kept them from developing a true romance. Only the "if" remains.
