I really miss being able to walk into an old church in Germany or Italy and hear music like this. On a lucky day the organist is rehearsing and very few people are in the church. Just a big beautiful space, with music filling that hard-surfaced space. This is one of the major advantages that Europeans have over Americans, Asians and Africans. Our American history bypassed most of this cultural heritage.

I do love that feeling too, the few times I've been lucky to walk around alone in an old church with a good historical organ as the organist practices or improvises... although as an East Asian myself, I wouldn't say this beauty is something exclusive to Europeans. (Fortunately -- the more beauty around the world, the better!) I have equally fond memories loafing around old temples accompanied by the music of a practicing ensemble, for instance. Old music and old architecture often go well together!

@@joannescouchet7038 I would really love to experience what you described. There are several small Buddhist and Taoist temples in San Francisco and Los Angeles and I have found a sense of inner peace inside them. But I have yet to be there with any musical program. Alas, we do not get the opportunity often to sit quietly in these special places -- time seems to stand still and we find ourselves once again in the presence of a welcoming transcendence. Beyond the mundane.

Cet orgue est d'une beauté exceptionnelle ! Dommage que ce grand organiste ne pratique pas assez les doigtés anciens pourtant bien connus en 2020 ! * * *
