Net so. Deesdae word daar nie meer musiek vir die siel gemaak nie maar kommersieele musiek vir die *iel wat by n komper uitrol.

I remember attending an Organ concert at St. Nicholas (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and if I remember right a few of these songs were played there. I believe there is still an annual organ concert there. Such beautiful music, especially from a live organ :)

In general, I think Dutch organs are magnificent! They have that brilliance of Northern German organ while not being snarly like the French organs. Do get me wrong, I love both but what are those trumpets? They sort of remind me of Regals: like normal Regal, String Regal, Diapason Regal, etc.

With music, you need to feel it. There are organists who don't feel the renaissance vibe, so they better stay far away from it :) The real renaissance music, performed well, is living, sprankling and flowing melodies, full of joy

Mr. Having a, thank u for playing this Netherlandish Organ Music. I have a comment u would like-I am suggesting that u try the New Organ in the Church in Sweden, it is Mechanical Tracker Action, 4 Manals And Pedals, And in the Same Church, the 1877 Henry Willis Organ there. Mr. Jonathan Dimmock has played them, And I Have Some Of His CDs, u ought to hear them, Also. God Bless U Always. I am hoping to get a chance to hear u also. Mr. Granville S. Wright, Church Musician, Fellow Toastmaster And Admirer Of Mr. Matthias Havingha.

The Dutch Empire is not spoken of often and little is known. It was not a territorial expansion that laid its claim to fame, but rather from merchant enterprise and Dutch control of international maritime shipping routes. You may be familiar with Dutch chartered companies like the Dutch East Indian Company and Dutch West Indian Company. The West Indian Company was chartered by the Dutch Republic granting it a 24-year monopoly on trade and colonization that included America. Yes, they were the baddies (actually the East Company, but it's complicated) whom the colonists were rebelling against, a specific case, the Boston Tea Party: "no taxation without representation." So, for those many who consider the Dutch only a small, peaceful country full of clog dancing and beer fests, think again, my friend.

I love Sweelinck's music, but this organ's tuning is unpleasant to me. The descending chromatic scale of the first piece, in particular, produces many sour dissonances.
@Herr_Flick_of_ze_Gestapo

It is tuned perfectly in the historically correct temperament. Some notes might sound out of tune to ears that are used to modern intonation.

As a Dutch person, I think you misunderstand what the point of this music is
@slc679
@slc679 4 жыл бұрын
Pfffft are you deaf? ‘No rhythm’ haha, the rhythm is there, it’s just not being played on drums out loud, as is the case with modern music. The entire essence of modern music is to overstimulate your senses to the maximum, and this has resulted in people thinking of classical music as ‘boring’. In reality, it’s modern music which is much too overwhelming and excessive.

Porkleaker In that case you have listened to only the first song, because you will find that ‘mein junges leben hat ein endt’ is anything but boring, especially the 5th and 6th variation. Written by Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck
