Klaus Maria Brandauer is portraying the villain Maximilian Largo. Is this supposed to be a Bond villain..? www.jamesbondlocations.com

This villain is by far the best part in the movie. He perfectly plays the psychotic character, smart, friendly, mannered, but also egocentric and cold blooded. Insanely charismatic actor 👍

He's the only truly scary Bond villain. His smile sends shivers down my spine. Somehow he reminds me of the late Robin Williams in Insomnia. He would have made a great Bond baddie as well.

You missed the best scene with Largo throwing things around in jealous rage and suddenly realizes Bond is probably watching him. There's nothing wrong with Klaus' performance and he's one of the most eccentric villains, will prefer Brandauer to Bardem any day.

Agreed. NSNA sucked but in my opinion, Brandauer as Largo is one of the best villains in Bond history. I also liked the element of tragedy between Largo and Domino. He tried to reach out to Domino but he could not reach her.

@@ricardocantoral7672 Interesting opinion. Especially when you compare him with the tight and excellent performance of Adolfo Celi and Luciana Paluzzi in Thunderball. I think Brandauer brings a rather clowny, strange and not a very villainous performance to this, very ill-produced, film. (Maybe I'm biased since I never liked Brandauer as an actor.) But it is not surprising that grumpy old Connery and the strange Brandauer were good friends.

@@erikolsson01 Well it's silly to compare him to Paluzzi, who many would argue even overshadowed Celi in Thunderball. There's no question in my mind that Fatima Blush, good as she is, doesn't hold a candle to Fiona Volpe as a femme fatale. But many people do make the case that Brandauer in this movie is a better Largo than Celi was. Myself, I'm uncertain. I like both for different reasons. Celi certainly has the more iconic look, but Brandauer has an intriguingly charming and yet slimy manner that's very becoming of a Bond villain, and perhaps ultimately more memorable lol.

I could see him back then playing the Joker in Batman in 1989 the way he and Kim Basinger were on screen together but he isn't a household name like Jack Nicholson is

Sean Connery called Klaus Maria Brandauer “one of the ten best actors in Europe.” That’s why he personally asked him to play the role of Largo. (Connery had tremendous say in script and casting.) It was a wise choice, as Brandauer was one of the best Bond villains ever. His Largo was complex - straining to carry a civilized exterior, to cover a bullying, insecure interior. He treated Domino as a possession, whereas Bond treated her like a woman. And Brandauer accomplished this without an eyepatch, a scar, metal hands, or a ridiculous SPECTRE ring. As with the rest of this excellent film, there was also the right balance of humour. I still laugh when Bond is captured aboard the yacht, and Largo greets him with, “Hallooo! Good morning. You’re a bit early for lunch.” (He shifts course later with, “Bund, ze game is over!”) I’ve always enjoyed this film as a whole - one of my favourites!

I don't care how bad Maria might have been, he was easily _the_ best Bond villain until Anton Chigurh.

I would not make an order among my top 3, which include these 2 plus Max Zorrin. Unfortunately the quality of the movies were not at the level of Brandauer's and Walken's perfomances, while Javier Bardem as Silva had the advantage that the movie was an overall good movie.

1:30 Of course Largo says good morning to everyone when he comes into work. That's just decent management. You can't mastermind a plan for world domination without being a team player.
@johanneseklund74966 жыл бұрын
He says good morning like it is a happy Friday or something. He is supposed to be a Spectre agent, hence the people working for him should be afraid, something that Klaus Maria fails completely.
@drparnassus28676 жыл бұрын
In Thunderball, Largo walks into a team meeting late and no-one makes a comment about his timekeeping. Clearly SPECTRE is a very laid-back workplace

@@drparnassus2867 haha I doubt that anyone would dare make remarks about Largo being late in Thunderball since he is Number 2 in Spectre and sits closest to Blofeld.

I read once that he comes across a lot more threatening in his native language. But in English he seems more like a nice guy. It didn’t translate over well as him being a big menacing villain. He was supposed to be a high tech villain. But I thought he did OK overall.

It’s ironic because in Mefisto ( his most famous role) his Character Hendrik Höfgen ( who is also an actor) says at one point ”Ich brauche die deutsche sprache” which translates to ” I need the german language ( to act)
