The animation is INCREDIBLE!! The protagonist seems likeable already, and the comedy is absolutely classic. I do hope this does well in the box office, because that might cause a resurgence in 2D animation (even though this is so lushly lit and shaded that it almost looks like CG)

Forest Lark i really hope so!! This 2D animation is so beautifully well made!!! And i really hope this inspires other animators to bring back 2d animation. I have nothing against 3d animation, i do think it's a great way of animation but we also should have 2d animation back. That animation is what made a lot of history like disney, hanna-barbara, the classic cartoons of cartoon network and Nickelodeon. 2d animation inspired many many animators to create amazing shows and movies with 2d animation. Now it slowly went away little by little... Even disney stopped making 2d movies since the princess and the frog... Im not saying that 3d animation should stop, it is nice to see more 3d movies, but 2d animation deserves to be part of animation too. I really hope animators inspire to bring back 2d hand drawn animation, it's such a beautiful art of hand drawn. Have you seen the 2017 video game Cuphead? Everything about the characters from the game were all hand drawn!!! And it's animation looks fantastic! ^^

I absolutely LOVED cuphead, especially the animation!!! It's so full of expression and personality, and is alltogether such a lovely callback to the golden age of animation (and the attention to authentic 1930s colouring mistakes and details was meticulous as heck like wow) And I agree with you 100%!! I hope for a day when 2D and 3D animated movies (including non-CG stuff like stop-motion) can coexist, and maybe even mix together into whole new methods. Like in that Disney short film called Paperman, which has a stylized blend between hand-drawn lines and CG modeling. Bringing other types of animation back into the popular movie market would benefit the industry as a whole, and surely result in technical innovations and development involving the various types that we just won't get if we only stick to CG. An demonstration of this from another medium entirely: You know how old video games used to have pixel-graphics, and how most new games from big companies have 3D graphics? A lot of indie game devs have brought back pixels, but thanks to new technology giving us bigger screens and more powerful computers in general, they're able to use tonnes more colours!! This gives us pixel-art graphics with INCREDIBLE depth and detail that could never have existed back in the day, but can thrive now. Owlboy and Hyper Light Drifter are great examples. I think the same thing can go for bringing back 2D animation: We'll find new ways to utilise it's distinct feel and make it flow in ways we simply couldn't when we were just painting cels. Klaus is a great example of exactly this! We're creating new technology to assist our animation all the time, and if big animation studios like Disney and Dreamworks could just understand the very potential of bringing back traditional animation, and letting it sit alongside CG, letting it develop into the future... Well, that would be wonderful.

God, I remember seeing this teaser back when it first came out. I can't remember the last time I waited this long for a movie and it turned out NOT to be a huge disappointment. In fact, this was one of the best films of the year, hands down. Two years to make, but hard work and determination pays off in the end. Fantastic.

Look how far this project has come. It only feels like yesterday when a lot of people discovered this teaser for the first time. And now, it's considered to be a modern Christmas classic by many. Wow, coming back to see this. The film was good, animation fantastic. However.... I really like this version of Jasper. Here, he isn't a whiny kid (or discount Kuzko), but rather an adult faced with just trying to survive. When he stumbles into Santas Workshop, it seems genuine. I'm not sure what notes Netflix gave the creators, but the original goals of the character were perfect, including the voice actor. Wish we could have seen this version instead.

That’s not how this movie works. This movie wasn’t released in too many theaters, meaning that it wasn’t supossed to win too much money, it was supposed to add content to the streaming service. Netflix supported the movie and showed it for free if you bought it, and obviously you can’t trace how many people bought Netflix just for this movie.
